I'm surprised you never "clock"" the gas meter to check how much gas is being used by the furnaces. As a former gas man for a gas utility i always checked the gas consumption - especially when converting any appliance from propane to natural gas. I've sure learned a lot watching your channel and thank you for providing it.

Hey Ted, FYI, you can have Y1 landed for single stage AC on those and you will still get High fan speed. A jumper between W1 and W2 is more critical as it will upstage to second stage heat in 10 minutes or to a field selectable timeframe. Says so on both, page 56 of the install manual.

Mr Ted Cook my brother! 28 year Hvac mechanic here, I just worked on this same exact Trane unit this past Friday. As soon as you had error code 3.2 pressure switch stuck open I knew what it was!! My issue was a could smell the inducer motor burnin up (you know the electrical burnout smell-Magic smoke!) and it was boiling to the touch. Easy diagnostic on that!! Also why isn’t that aprilaire 1850 dehumidifier ducted in? Plus why they leave the shipping bracket and cable ties on the inlet?? I had an installer completely butcher an install of an 1850 100 pint last week. Airflow wrong direction. Top inlet and didn’t even bother to move cover plate to back or remove bracket. Client complained about the noise it was making. Also he didn’t interlock it to furnace for blower control!!! Nice. These days thou it’s ok, hard to replace techs these days. Even before covid. I get it’s a difficult field but you can make a great living. I been pulling ot since April. Hey great channel! I like your laid back style. It’s how I always try and be. My motto is…Don’t Be A Fu**ing Hack!!! Do your job. If you gotta think about it just do it!!! People pay a lot of money for our services! Sorry for the novel! Be well and keep up the great videos!!!

I was told by my April aire rep that they don’t work any better or worse when ducted in. Humidity level in the home will reach equilibrium on its own.

My Trane had a clogged condensation drain and froze up the A coil and water backed up and drained down onto the board thru screw holes and fried the board. The repair tech never found why it froze. I found it by watching your videos. Unclogged the drain, redesigned it like your videos, and sealed the screw holes above with rtv. Been 2 years good. Thank you!

I have seen those units be in made in Trenton New Jersey at the manufacturing plant for train an American standard. They have those boards packed in boxes on the assembly floor. They would not let us reach in and take a few for samples. Love your videos

Hey Ted. I’m glad your making videos again. I did cringe when you plugged that in with power. I had to replace boards bc of molex plugs shorting out the board. Once you kill power you need to wait til all lights are off and caps are de charged. Then you can unplug and test. Great work and great content

I've seen this same issue with the motor bearings freezing up on on these inducer fans. It's a lubrication problem with the sleeve bearings. Some sort of mung is created from the acidic condensate fumes on the front bearing. It's pretty simple to tear them down to where you can put some synthetic oil on the bearings.
@jima3129 Жыл бұрын
Amazing. How long have inducer fans been around? And Trane screwed the pooch on the bushings of the motor? Hard to believe. Are the motors imported from China, or is the whole furnace from there?
@danobrien31092 жыл бұрын
Good video Ted. Seems your a good friend to have. You’ve done a few videos that have you helping out another heating and cooling fella. Trane furnaces seem to me to be pretty temperamental . That frozen vent motor issue could likely be solved by installing a drain port on the bottom of the motor housing. I’ve seen it on other brands over the years, generally furnaces are shipped for top discharge and instructions are given for horizontal left or right installations. This being a top discharge why would someone reroute the pressure switch tubing? Either way I enjoy your videos just not a fan of Trane equipment. Your friend owes you a dinner at least. 👍🇨🇦

I only watch your videos to see you go through your diagnostic process. Don't want your job and have a good a/c man. Problem is Latchel took over our maintenance and they sent an idiot to do his job. Corporate maintenance sucks people, stick with local people that you can trust.

What tool did you use to take off the cover on that S9V2..my guy says to use a flat head screwdriver in the main hole..hesitant to do that constantly for fear plastic will strip...should I be using the perforated slits on the outside instead?

I think every video on this channel is fantastic. But I pondered on this thought. For a channel that promotes Trane, which I respect. How come almost every video is a service call fixing a failed Trane. I'm sure its great for business fixing Trane. Shouldn't the channel be about installing new Trane HVAC systems replacing other brands that failed. So I went with Lennox.
@TedCookHVAC2 жыл бұрын
You're seeing the results of literally 1000s and 1000s of systems installed and what few failures we have.... we sell about 325 to 350 systems per year. Our warranty stats are GREAT.... we service and repair all makes and Lennox has become one of the worst. Sorry but that is a true statistic. Thank You for watching !!

Be sure to look for Ghost watermarks coming from the inducer down to the control board those crappy fasco inducers are coming apart at the housing and leaking onto the control boards left and right
@brocklambert84172 жыл бұрын
I'm telling you I replaced the blue ton of those inducers under warranty just because they froze in front of a customer then the customer doesn't trust them all you got to do is give them a boost one time and then they don't give you any trouble for the rest of the season

Why don't all furnaces have a large viewing window on the covers instead of a tiny round one that isn't even over the error lights? And also, a viewing window to the burners when the cover is attached? Modern furnaces seem to be overly complicated, built to fail and made to discourage repair!

Would bet money that unit has an exhaust termination next to/near and at the same level as the intake. Or a concentric kit.

Motors have packing holding oil then 2 oilite bronze bearings..the bearings dry lack of oil seize to shaft.. scores it leaves residue.. I took mine apart..But it cranks at 4k speed thats fast..should be a lubable motor.. planned to fail,..
@Garth20112 жыл бұрын
More crap bearings in motors made these days...bushings vs. real engineered ball bearings. Good call by Ted once again. I heard from a few HVAC techs its fair to use a single stage condenser with a two stage heater/air handler with the correct low volt wiring. Is that true?

Oh my god! Now furnaces have a Personality too???? I got caught on this one installing a new dishwasher for my sister. She got a bad main board (Yeah, now dishwashers have mainboards too) from the factory. I put in the new board hooked her up, snd nothing. My Ladyfriend is reading the installation in structions and says " Did you set the personality?" Of course i said " you gotta be shitting me right"? Nope, that was it. I had not set the personality dip switches. NOTHING is straightforward any more
