It must be a skill you have learned over the years not to allow the desire to speak your mind or make your customer feel overtake your sales pitch. As the audience we have the luxury to say “those people are cheap” or why don’t they replace that old system?? It’s easy spending other peoples money. But where’s the line in the sand for Pipe Doctor? When does the friendly banter end and the sales pitch become the deciding factor? Obviously it’s going to be better for you and them if they buy a new forced air system even better if they finance it through Pipe Doctor. Everyone deserves to have professional prompt service from a heating pro such as Pipe Doctor. I’m glad you’re on the job!

1989 Lennox Whisper Heat G20 75K BTU natural draft, intermittment spark ignition 80% gas fired furnace in my house, has never broke down once 👍. When I saw Daniel's video on his channel of him tearing one out of a customers house, that WAS NOT broken, and the clients just wanted to upgrade, it brought a tear to my eye 😢

Those whisper heats run forever, but most of those dura curve heat exchangers have cracks in the back of em. By most, I mean at least 7/10
@JimmydaGooch18 күн бұрын
@@josiahpierson3636Honestly, because of its age, I would agree with you, but when I saw Daniel's video (Mike's employee) removing the one from the customers house and showing the heat exchanger in really good shape, it gave me some hope that mine is as well. I got a low level CO alarm plugged in down there, so far so good 🤷

@ I’ve got a couple of 1989 Armstrong Air R22 ac units in my house. When I moved in 13 years ago they ran fine for at least the first 5 years with no issues at all. And then one day one of the condensing units wouldnt run. Just hum. So I took out the cap (old unit had two separate caps, one for the compressor and another for the fan) and realized there was a 7.5 in there which should have been a 5uf. So I replaced it with a 5 and it’s lived happily ever after since then. It had been running fine with the 7.5 for years and years. Just figured that if some of the hard start kits utilize large caps, it might start easier with a slightly larger cap.

It's been my experience that when a customer doesn't want to spend money and you're giving them your best advice on replacement that suddenly they dont call you anymore. They can always find someone to keep patching it together forever.

Questions I have a old furnace blower , I use as a fan.(it's wired with a extension cord wire, it rips, but I noticed the wires get warm, if I put a little bigger capacitor on it, 5 to a 6 do you think it might help not heat up the wires??)

measure the current and block the air flow, at either the outlet or inlet until it's not drawing over-current anymore. make sure it's on the high setting and running right at or just below the labels current rating. pretty much every blower will be way over current without any back pressure from the furnace, plenum, return and ducts, flue pipe(inducers) generally I block the outlet side from center of blower towards the outside edge with a piece of duct sheet metal, holding it by hand until current is right, use a marker or scratch awl, to mark it's location around the motor flange. then cut it oversize and bend three sides to fit on the housing edges, add a few screws. as you do that you'll hear the blower speed way up, current go way down and velocity of airflow greatly increase. it will be louder, but wont cook the motor!
@curt354819 күн бұрын
Actually, you can test just the blower with the door on with the Fluke 902 FC multimeter. It should be WI-FI capable if you download their app.

😂😂 single best guess?? 35 days at the most ! I know are some that would remove the combustion fan blow it out clean it up oil the bearings charge an arm and a leg !! But at the end of the day? She has ran her heart out for 20+ years AN the unit has exceeded its expected life span!! I look at it like this :: My reputation is on the line every time I walk into a house or commercial building. An if I keep getting calls back for a non working unit it isn’t long till you hear “” you was just here to fix it. Why didn’t you fix it right?”” Been down that road in my 20’s . 40 plus years later?? I don’t pull no punches nor take no prisoners! The unit hast to be replaced plain and simple!!! ( a commenter made a post about the redickless price for replacement?? 0.0 HELLO?? 12 grand is NOT out of line with 2024 💲 cost!!! Honestly?? That is in the average realm of quotes in the cities) Have any of the trolls priced what it cost to build/replace a house?? Well people we are not in Kansas no more Dorothy !! A nice shack your looking at $125 grand a that’s base line bottom level!!🤷🏻♂️ but we got to check for our own ability reasons and the customers safety .. we can only do what the customer will allow us to do !! It “not” my problem if they want to keep poring money down the drain 🤦♂️ also? Just because the test showed no compromise heat exchanger?? That doesn’t mean a day a week when she’s running a nonstop she won’t split open!! It Nice job… HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!

They could go with mini-splits, several of them, or a multi zone…. then their getting upgraded to air conditioning as well. Depends on if they have a decent electrical system to handle it, would have to be 100A minimum…. Probably will cost a bit more than replacing the gas furnace, but it’s the way to move forward

I've never heard of a motor not starting with either a 4.2 or 4.7 capacitor, but would start with 5. That's crazy. It would be a different story if the motor actually called for 10 or 15. That is totally believable.

As with many large ticket items, most folks look at the investment as a buy and pay it off, when, IMO, they should be looking at it in the opposite: empty savings for the item and start refunding it. For example, let's say that I have a $9,000 boiler replacement and it has life expectancy of 15 years. I should be saving $600 a year plus compounded inflation at a minimum. I should be doing this so that at 15 years when my boiler goes, I have a savings account that is sitting there waiting for the expense.
