the got EXACTLY the right composer for this reboot. I saw the orginal years ago and the music was beautiful for its time and still is.I haven't seen this one yet but the music....my soul feels this anime. hope to see it some time.anyone who see's this comment.I'm a Gundam and Macross fan but a crush of mine recommended this anime to me. Swanao is indeed the perfect composer for an original score. The old version had say 3-4 original titles and the rest was very good and sometimes rare classical pieces that you don't hear that often. I mean, everytime I hear Bolero I think about the My Conquest is the Sea of the Stars Battle (soooo fitting).

The worst or best part about this song is how it reflects the entire second seasons losses. Every death minus the emperors us a result of the greed of the ruling class reaching for even more power. Nobody needed to die, but millions were killed between the empire and the alliance.

So I've watched this a few times and absolutely love it. Few questions: 1. Are we ever going to see season 3? 2. Now that I've watched season 1 and 2, what's next? Am I missing more than what is streamed on Funimation? 3. Are there any other animes with a similar art style or storyline? Love the space stuff. It always bums me out that stuff like this isnt more popular over here. That and it seems we can crank out US cartoons/animation but it takes foreverrrrrrr for Japanese stuff (I get the quality is higher but FEED ME MORE!).

They have announced season 3 with 24 episodes. Hopefully it will be aired next year. Die Neue These first 2 seasons adapted 2/10 books of the novel. Season 3 will cover the next 2 or 3 books. There is an older version of this anime covering all 10 books of the novel which is Legend of the Galactic Heroes 1988 OVA with 110 episodes. It is very old so it is quite difficult to watch, but if you feel like you cannot wait for the next season of Die Neue These then you can check out this OVA version.

People like you are why I hope this series succeeds and keeps getting more episodes. Not everyone can stomach 110 episodes of old boring animation, especially now that it really looks OLD. The character designs are amazing in both the old and new show, but design can only carry you so far when animation itself has changed so much. More people need to experience this story! The original is a masterpiece, the remake barely scratches the surface interms of character development, back story and simply showing both sides humanity and the epic nature of the war and how its so much a everyday part of people's lives for generations that it has molded the way they are governed and lived in ways that would be unacceptable to us. The only thing the abridged verson aka the new one has going for it is the space battles look better and Sawano did the soundtrack.

@@GreatSageSunWukong First, the remake hasn't gone as in depth yet because it only has 24 episodes so far, whereas the original had 110 episodes + multiple movies...so that comparison isn't fair. Second, the new version is not an abridged version because the events have been progressing along at roughly the same pace. The events in episode 23 of this new version correspond to the events of episode 26 in the old version...so there isn't a huge difference. Third, you're looking at the older version with rose tinted glasses if you think it was superior in everything except space battles and soundtrack. The older version had plenty of other issue such as clunky expositions, inconsistent pacing, and some sections of certain episodes that not only deviated from the novels but also seemed like unnecessary filler.
