After replacing the stock 350/ 2spd auto with a 400 RA3/TH400 and I kept the 10 bolt differential in my 68 Firebird. I lived 3 miles from Fremont drags so ..I had to carry extra spider gears and tools to replace them because the torque would split them in half.

True, but why buy a new part when can I fix the old one and no one’d be the wiser. Same could be said if they had just meant to refresh the stock drive components, but they decided to upgrade, that takes money. It more about where to spent the money, not how much you spend.

I would rather fix those original body parts, not only for the original factor but aftermarket ones don't always match up as well to lines. Plus, I'd rather throw my money at the upgraded brakes, suspension and drivetrain and keep the body as original as possible.
@TheRoadhammer3793 жыл бұрын
Remember when plastic was supposed to be easier and cheaper to produce than metal parts? Yet, all this plastic crap is way overpriced, my 3406E Cat has an intricate oil fill cap. Metal, with rubber cork and a metal T handle... 12 bucks at Cat. My ISX Cummins has a simple injection molded plastic cap, screws on... 62 bucks!!! Why!? I think that's the point they are conveying, a molded plastic part that probably costs a few bucks to make is astronomically priced for what it is.

I would love to have the trans am. I've been a certified mechanic for over 40 years. That car was my favorite of all time since I watched the movie in 1977. Say can anyone help me out...rebuilding a sbc that had casting numbers as follows...block=14010207, heads=462624, crank=3932442, pistons=1436 and an unknown camshaft with only a CWC, or CMC and a #1579 and a “D9” between the lobes. There is a casting number of some kind on the face of the sprocket mating surface of 838630. I’ve spent the better part of the evening trying to research these numbers to little avail. I’m told the “CMC/CWC” are a main cam core distributor supplying all the major aftermarket brands. Anyone know what can that is?
