I am Bipolar. Years ago I was hospitalized after being incorrectly medicated and having a psychotic episode. There are many things about that incident that I don’t remember. One of them was when I punched my husband in the face just for trying to help me. He’s tough, I didn’t hurt him, but I am mortified that I did that. Ultimately, those were my actions and I MUST take responsibility for how I acted. And I did. I didn’t make excuses. I apologized, and I made sure to work on managing my care, and making a plan of action should my disorder render me out of control again. That was 15 years ago. My husband and I are still strong. There is no excuse for that type of behavior. Accept responsibility, and work on maintaining control over yourself, and your life.

I am bipolar as well. I got sick when I was 15, but didn't get diagnosed and medicated until I was nearly 20. During those years, I almost set a guy's hair on fire on purpose and did other really crazy things. The illness wasn't my fault, but it was my responsibility to work on myself and face the consequences for my actions. I'm glad you did the same, and I'm so happy that you and your husband are still together

i like your mindset, but don’t be too hard on yourself. it wasn’t your fault that you were incorrectly medicated and experienced a psychotic episode. you’re not yourself and you cannot think clearly during psychosis. it’s good that you took responsibility for your life and actions though, you can be proud of yourself! not everyone is able to do so.

You do have to take responsibility, but I think explaining the reason behind why you did those actions, doesn't always have to be an excuse. Had you not been manic, you wouldn't have done those things and I think it's ok to say that your state of mind was not normal whilst still taking responsibility for your actions in that state and accepting whatever punishment comes your way

When locked up, you'll likely be locked up with someone as crazy as Nikita that no matter what. In federal prison, some people have nothing to lose (like lifers without the chance of parole), so if you cross them, they will beat you up or worse. This was jail, there's still going to be mentally unwell and/or dangerous people there, but a lot of folks are just there awaiting trial or for a petty crime.

There's been an uptick in studies done on personality disorders in recent years. A lot of people who identify as trans (regardless of why they believe they are trans) usually have at least one personality disorder, usually two. Paired with that is the fact that people with personality disorders have control over what they're saying and doing, yet they get lumped in with mentally ill people, and that isn't fair. Mental disorders (such as bipolar disorder) =/= personality disorder (cluster B, narcissim). So, nothing that Nikita has done as been an oopsie, or something that needs to be treated as mental illness. Nikita is a narcissist and possibly a self-hating gay, since narcs hate homosexuals even if they themselves are one.

Most of my trans friends 1) would never parade around in their pre-op birthday suit. They would be astronomically embarrassed... 2) they do not want to be called trans women, or trans men, they see themselves as the third sex, just trans...as they see the usurping of womanhood, girlhood, malehood as demeaning to their female and male friends, and are proud to be trans.

I don’t get the outage when someone is put in jail based on their sex. Like it has been proven time and time again that SA and pregnancy results when just about every time when in based on the prisoners preferred gender when they are transgender. Like the judge was right to put her in the men’s section but in her own cell. It was for her safety AND the safety of the biological females who would otherwise be incarcerated with her. When will people understand that things that are separated into women/men are actually separated based on sex? It was only recently that women and female weren’t used interchangeably.

Everyone grows up “in public.” We don’t live in isolated units, we live in communities, and onteract and interrelate woth each other. We all influence each other, society is not a private undertaking. Even without social media, nobody’s life is completely “private.” Nor are our influences. Obviously there are levels to seeking attention, but part of growing up in any culture is knowing that you’re not a unit unto yourself, everyone affects each others behaviour and the expectations underlying that behaviour are very much related to one’s public name and reputation.

Nikita knows that if a straight male was already aware of what he is and had the choice to bang either him, or an actual woman with a fully functional vagina, then he'd go for the actual woman. He simply can't change what a straight person is attracted to no matter how bad he wants one to and I think that genuinely pisses Nikita off. No matter how many wigs, surgeries, silicone, or makeup this dude tries to get in order to replicate the real thing, he will NEVER be the real thing. Even if he did succeed in fully altering himself down there, I guarantee you, he still wouldn't feel like the real thing. And the bad thing is he has options within his community that will gladly dick him down, but because he stubbornly wants to prove that he's a natural straight woman so bad he keeps wanting to target men that aren't attracted to him. It's just terrible

When it comes to predictable, preventable mental illness episodes due to chemical imbalances, I believe the person bares responsibility for keeping themselves in check. Nikita bares the burden of taking their medication, keeping in-contact with mental health professionals and doing the most possible to control the situation. If, after all of that, Nikita then has a break-through episode it is not their fault. However, it sounded as if Nikita had been drinking and may have been drunk; you never drink while on those meds. That is their fault in this; they created the situation. Nikita might not have meant to do exactly what they did, but they created the circumstances for it.

A bipolar diagnosis doesn't excuse behavior. The right way to handle it is to take prescribed meds, no alcohol or other substances, talk therapy, etc. The behavior Nikki exhibited seems more like narcissistic and/or 😮borderline personality issues and those are separate from bipolar. If Nikki received either of those dx along with BD, I doubt you'll ever hear about it because most people don't understand them and shy away from people with personality issues.

Sadly, many trans women are. There has always been a section in male prisons for vulnerable populations (gay, disabled, etc.). I still can't believe we as a society have gotten to the point where a possibly violent male can be housed in a female prison because he *says* he's female. If this were happening anywhere outside of the Western world, human rights and women's organizations would be campaigning for women/female only accommodations. The small population of truly "trans" folks (diagnosed with gender dysphoria) is greatly outnumbered by the agp's, con men and their enablers. Who would have thought common sense would be the first thing to go as the internet/social media took over our society.
