Here’s a little bit of a wholesome story: In my online school it always says my birth name as my username, everyone on the class knows to call me my preferred name, but nobody knew why, until today. Somebody asked my why I went by a different name and tried to explain without outing myself to the class. I basically told them I didn’t like my name and that’s about it. Well someone immediately asked “Are you trans? We won’t judge” and just seeing that de me cave and tell them I was and the whole goddamn class accepted me. They asked me how it worked and what it was like and said sorry if they used the wrong name, and they tried really hard not to offend me.

Actually in my country (Czechia) until like 3 or 4 generations ago kids until 6 (or sometimes more) were raised gender neutral... All the kids were wearing skirts and then later you would just stay in them or transition to trousers. End of story. But somehow that got lost and now when they make like filmed fairy tales which take place in the "olden times", of course there's this modern cis-filter where everyone at every age is strictly girl or boy, which obviously wasn't the case.

More like when the child decides for themselves, my parents actually did this with my youngest brother when he was a baby and he was born a boy and chose to be a boy when he was about three. They did that because my second youngest little brother, when he turned four years old he always wanted to dress like a girl and play with dolls and have tea parties and my dad hated him dressing like a girl and would get really angry and he wasn't allowed to paint his nails or wear make up. My mom never really thought much of it because she figured he just liked that stuff because he had a sister (me) but one day when he was about five or six she caught him in the bathroom with scissors and he was trying to cut his penis off! She took the scissors away and she asked him why he was trying to do that and he started crying and told her that it was because he hated being a boy and he thought that if he cut it off he could be a girl withought my dad getting angry. So my mom left my dad awhile after that but then me and my three siblings were put into fostercare because my mom's an alcoholic so my little brother is still with a family that desriminates against him and he's 12 now and has to live with a Christian family that makes him go to Sunday school and discriminates against him and tells him he won't go to heaven if he doesn't act like a boy and they just think he's gay

I actually got through to someone with the "you are the gender of the body you're in, your body is like that because that's who you are" by bringing up that never, in all of cinema, have we not accepted that someone in the wrong body is still the gender they always were. Mind swap between genders, the people that know still use the right pronouns, even if having the wrong genitals is directly mentioned. Any possession where the person/entity is or is coded as the opposite gender is still called by the correct name & pronouns. Any time reincarnation is a thing we call the past life by their preferred pronouns no matter what the current body is like. Even gender coding in and of itself proves the point. Granted none of that is possible, it shows that we all agree & always have that your gender isn't completely your biologic function. That it's part of the person themselves regardless. If you can slap a bow & wire eyelashes on a robot & call it "she" or a Roman nose & slick back hair on one & call it "he" you can respect a trans person's gender not matching up with their bodies.

Great video, as always! That bit about raising all children gender-neutral reminds me of the novel I'm currently reading, "The Black Tides of Heaven," by non-binary author JY Yang. In that series, children are all raised gender-neutral (and physically kept that way - much like going on blockers) until the time when they decide to announce their gender (and most will live as that gender for a couple years before officially "confirming" it by going through certain biological changes). Some never choose a binary gender at all. Interesting fact: the author discovered their non-binary-ness through writing that novel, when they realized that if raised in that world they themselves would never feel quite comfortable choosing one of the binary genders. It's definitely an interesting world to visit, and I'd personally love to see certain aspects of it implemented in our world.

My (half) brother used to play with dolls and make up, play hairdressers and want to be his favourite mouse teddy's mummy. My dad used to yell at my mum (not his kid btw) for letting her son be a "Nancy boy", and he would "end up being gay". My mum just let my brother be what he wanted and he is now 16, straight and still a male... Nothing has changed... Him playing with make up didn't make him want to be a women, it didn't make him gay. He was a little boy playing with the toys he wanted to play with
