@Braapncamp3 жыл бұрын

I see it like this, I understand that the people in the north had to convert to be able to continue their trade with the continent. The values in christianity (pure ones) and strive for knowledge thru monks and nuns is something that we should appreciate. I also understand that the church had to seize the cultural sites to get the conversion faster. But we should never forget that and it is very sad that so many pre christian artifacts and cultural symbols got destroyed. That also happened to some Stone and Bronze Age sites in Europe. Go figure. A total religion that went too far and did not let others exist. We should learn from that. Thanks Scotty!

I adored this episode. The ancient cultures fascinate me. Their sophistication is often overlooked by many and I believe we can learn a lot by getting rid of the old ways and adopting even older ones. My surname is ‘Axon’ - a long bastardised Viking name meaning ‘son of oak’. I have spent a lot of time looking at their ships and have even had the privilege of sailing on some of them. I was also a marine coordinator on a Viking movie (yet to be released) and it was fascinating as the director was into everything being accurate. This was a great great episode and I loved it!! Great stuff!

Thanks Tom! I totally agree and we have alot of topics, the way of life and how this ages developed and the connections to discuss and learn more about the years to come. Cool to know more of your maritime and videoproduction engagements. You know that i've seen some on it before which looled awesome. It is so important that we reconstruct and learn how the vessels was built, to really understand the technology and this is done at many places, wich is good. At the moment a read more about the Hjortspring, that makes visiting our bronze age petroglyphs so much more interesting. Even if just their presence is awesome and just to feel them. Take care old Son of Oak man!

I don't know how old they where but maybe from the early bronze age so people have lived there for a pretty long time.

In addition, the ending of the era is also "hidden in fog". The vikings did not disappeared, they just transformed. The religions and cultural traditions existed parallel for a longer time than we actually understand. Alot of important texts and knowledge of our early written text just went up in smoke when the royal castle Tre Kronor burnt down to ground in the 1600's.
