You may know this trick given you experience, but with a couple adapter fittings and a length of hose it's possible to gravity feed propane from an "exchange" tank to you ship's Propane tanks. It takes a little time, and the higher the discharge tank is above the receiving tank that faster it goes. But it is often much faster than days spent chasing down someone to fill your tanks. Hope the passage goes well!

How much is a local gas bottle? It’s good when you’re in exotic places on the other side of the world from some of your viewers to mention these things. It helps you to stay relevant among other channels providing useful information for future visitors to where you have been

As always, Vera steals the show! I enjoyed seeing the beginning of your crossing as I followed you on PredictWind throughout the days. Do Adam and Camilla speak English when talking to Vera or do they have some Swedish? Also, the sound mixing was a little off in this episode as the music drowned out the dialogue often. I watched with captions so I was able to understand most of it, except not the parts in Swedish. Thanks for getting a video out so quickly after making landfall in Martinique. I'm sure you were travel-weary and wishing you didn't have to spend time editing, but as a viewer, I appreciate your efforts.

Congratulations, you're on the way again! Is this the same route you took 2 years ago? Does Vera understand both languages? How does she comprehend the use of 2 languages to communicate? Glad to see you taking on crew for the crossing AND "buddy-boating". I'd like to see more do that for safety reasons If they can. How far away does your AIS track? Can you keep track of your flotilla 9 miles apart? Do you have them on radar also? As usual, this means you have already arrived when we see your first videos! I'm looking forward to some Caribbean cruising because it's still snowing in Michigan and the temps are in the single digits (Fº).
@bdphourde2 жыл бұрын
@@kevinfisher1345 While the AIS uses the same frequencies as the VHF radios, they don't also use the same antennas. RAN has its AIS antennas on the antenna arch and you are lucky to have a range of 7 miles from that low. The radar is on the backstay and only a couple of feet higher than the AIS antennas. Its range will be similarly limited to that of the AIS though it puts out more power and therefore has a stronger signal. If Star's AIS antenna happens to be mounted on the masthead, then there is a better chance of reception.

Surely there are engineering shops that could simply machine copper pipe or some non-flammable material into a socket / male fitting that would work....relatively inexpensively. You are certa in to encounter this problem again in the Pacific Ocean or elsewhere ?

I wonder if it would be possible for one of your viewers to make a custom propane bottle fitting to allow you to fill up those bottles. Seems like someone with a metal working lathe could make a thread to fit that bottle with a more custom thread that could be used in places like this… unless every country has a different thread and size fitting which would be dumb… so likely what would be the case!

In Denmark, you have an unwritten rule you must wear red sailing trousers at the port if you have crossed the Atlantic ... If you have sailed across the Atlantic, you can rightfully walk in red trousers. But there are many ways to do it have seen lots of especially older men in red pants in the ports around. I just thought it was some kind of maritime fashion in line with Docksides. Never before have they known that the red trousers had a direct, symbolic meaning that they were a kind of nautical scalp.🌹🌹🌹

So many cruisers have to purchase multiple propane bottles because of the same fill problem. I can see why converting to a convection cook top when feasible makes sense.

Also, is it necessary to prefilter the diesel you put in your tank before doing so. Or are the gas stations filters up to this job ? Think I would pre-filter just to be safe before an extended crossing .
