Hi Andy, this video is how I learnt you were DNF. Sorry to hear this. Fair play for putting yourself up for this..both the event and sharing. Get the knee recovered and back out riding. All the best and I look forward to the rest of this mini series. 😎

Hi Andy, I DotWatcher for the first time! I was gutted for you when I saw that you DNF. But you did the right thing. I hope you recover soon. I subscribed when I came across your PBP videos and have watched all your vlogs since. I really enjoy all your content and admire your dedication. Keep up the good work. All the best.

Hi Andy, great video, thank you. assume 1 learning would be lower gearing with say a grx crankset to reduce pressure on the knees. The winning rider was on a gravel setup which proved optimal for the terrain

One of the lessons yeah I think so, I’ll have a totally different setup next season after this, bike and all

Great insight to all that goes on beforehand. I followed yourself and Josh and realised you both scratched with the same injury from dotwatcher. This is my 2nd year of ultras and understand the frustration you must have felt in Munich. You will come back stronger and I look forward to your next vids. Maybe see you on another TCR start line in the future

Hi Andy, great effort and such a shame for the injury. Was dot watching yourself and Josh and was uncanny you both had to scratch for the same reason. Love your channel and your honesty and looking forward to future videos. Keep up the great work and remember, what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.

Great video Andy, we have buzzed a couple of messages back on fourth on insta. Again so sorry you needed to scratch but it was the right decision. Thank you for being so open and transparent about these things. We are so used to seeing the fun side of things but we need to understand that these races are serious work and don’t always go to plan. I look forward to following your road to recovery and also seeing the inside of the TCR, it’s something I would love to do but due to my knee problems it’s something I will never have a chance at doing. Stay safe, be happy and keep strong 💪

Thanks for the fantastic video, I am looking forward to the rest in the series. The detailed equipment breakdown was fantastic and very helpful. My only input (as a much LESS experienced ultra rider) would be to switch to carrying TPU tubes for your backup tubes. While they cost a little more, you can carry 3-4x the number, taking up much less space and less weight. I am not on tubeless, I run latex tubes and carry TPU tubes for spares.

Thankyou for this. I really enjoy watching these race vids as I know just what it's like having done(well, half done) the Panceltic race recently. Sorry to hear you had to scratch due to knee injuries. I've just seen Josh Ibbett's video , also scratched with knee trouble. You both did the right thing. Don't mess with knees, or achilles tendons, they are bummers to get healed and can be permanently damaged. So hard when you 've been preparing for it for months. My Pcr scratch was not justified really. My nemesis ,the cold got to me , + getting lost and going off course put me in such a negative mindset I decided I had had enough and quit. Hope you recover soon and get that knee working properly again. There are a few events on the calendar later this summer if you're tempted?

Hey mate, it was justified for us both I’m sure, I’m taking it as learning and fuel for next time it’s been a poopy year for me. But no one knows what was happening in the moment for us so you and I will both be back :) I’m keen to do something else this year, what events did you know of? I want to finish something this year 🤣

Fascinating insight into all the pre-race stuff you had to go through in the hours before the off. It looked like a long, and mentally as well as physically, tiring day even before the first pedal strokes (I know everyone had to do it, but not ideal all the same). After dot watching and following remotely, I look forward to seeing it from a rider's perspective. I liked Robin Gemperle's take on how he views his previous TCRs - first one, experiment, then defeat, then maybe win. I'm sure you'll come back stronger and more suceesful next time you try.

Hey Andy! That was interesting - seeing what you took and how the whole the adventure started. Hopefully the dust has settled, the sulk has been sulked, and lessons and experience filed away for next year. Obviously all of us out here were gutted we couldn't follow you across the Bosphorus, but we'll see that in 2025. In the meantime. let the adventures continue! I read someone's comment about the TCR (I think..) that the first time was experiment, the second time understanding (?) and the third was Victory! The journey is still the destination...😅

Sorry you had to scratch, I was looking forward to some more insights and lived experience. I just finished my first race the Transpyrenees a few weeks ago and had a ton of problems (none physical) but worked my way through and finished fine! I can honestly say I want more and age (being 50 but looking 40) is not a hindrance doing these type of things, never too old to go for it!

Ah cool, I’ve had a red gamechanger for years, just bought a new white one too. Such a cool helmet. The storm chaser is really cool, do you think ABUS would support a channel like mine? I wouldn’t mind replacing the one I wore to the TCR with a nicer one but not aero, more vented, like the storm chaser actually or similar

Hello nice documentation of pre race and gear. Sorry to hear about your DNF. Hopefully you dig a little deeper on what you think caused your knee issues. Also a video summary of the things that you did well will put this thing to bed and you can move on to the next challenge.

Feeling inspired but gutted for you. Really want to do the TCR but at 58 time is ticking despite still being 26 in my head! 😅. Just one thought about the knees is whether you've looked at the Q factor of your pedals and saddle height? I had knee issues but a minor drop in saddle heigh and 8mm wider pedal axles and all is good.
