Note: Turkey follows a safe/secure country system for international to international airport transfers. For example, if you fly from Poland, Finland or Austria, (all of Europe really, not just the EU) Japan, So. Korea, or Canada to Istanbul to connect to a flight to Mexico, Germany or Spain then you will NOT have to go through security in Istanbul, leave the plane and go into the main terminal to catch your next flight. The only check is coming off the plane a person is there to see if you have an onward ticket/boarding pass. Coming from South Africa and other designated non-secure countries you will have to go through security (not customs or immigration) at IST before making your international connection. Few know this and unfortunately this aspect is not well publicized.

We arrive from Oslo, Norway, with our flight at 19.20. Istanbul is just a stopping place. We will continue our journey from Istanbul to Dubai at 20.40 with another flight number. @@oscarforstrnen4493 Bad. Will never go back. The flight was over an hour late. We didn't make it to the next flight. We tried to get help but just ended up standing in line for many hours. Totally incompetent staff. Couldn't help us at all. Would not recommend anyone to go to this airport. We had to fix a new plane on our own. We also had to stop over at another place in the north of Turkey on the border with Georgia to get to our destination. Totally incompetent staff. When getting our boarding pass my friends pass got stuck in the machine. The staff did not want to help. We were wery lucky and got help from another person who also had lost his flight.

Thank you so much for this video. I’ve got this. I’ve got 90 minutes to get to my next terminal when I fly in late January. Takes a lot of anxiety out of my travels!!! I’m new to traveling. I’ve worked my whole career for 35 years and I’ve barely gone anywhere! I just bought my first trip. I’ll fly from Chicago to Istanbul then from Istanbul to KL Malaysia. I’m going to do several countries all in the single trip so I’m going to catch my regional flights from country to country in Southeast Asia. I’ll be traveling for five months! Thank you so much Oh, and by the way, I scored my first flight for $340.23 from Chicago to Kuala Lumpur! Yes!!!

Thank you for the video, your flight from South Africa (a country considered unsafe) required you to go through security a second time for this international transit in Istanbul. But I specify that in general when you make an international transit during your stopover in Istanbul, it is not necessary to go through security because you do not leave the international zone of the airport.
