Bless you for sharing your wisdom with us. I just found this video. I am a visual learner and just starting out porting with mu son on chainsaws. I am retired an want to spend time with him. Just an amazing educational video. How can I find more of your instructional educational videos?

Did you notice the gains? I'm doing about the same on a rotax 122, i'm matching the crancases, and the crankcases to the cylinder and perfecting the tranfer ports like you, i also polished the exhaust, it's very perfect now, but i never run this bike, i wont feel the differences, did you notice them?

Nice OConnor! Can't agree more, I have never seen a Blaster cylinder head that didn't need some work, and usually a lot of it. I noticed on your website kenoconnorracing(.com) you have about the best price I have seen on 2 stroke porting work.

For practice what I did was go down to my nearest chain saw shop and they gave me 3 old cylinders to mess with.

Yamaha has or had updates on technical subjects such as porting. Raising exhaust ports, widening and such. They are called wrench reports. These factory update sheets are proven ways to improve performance without overdoing it and ruining a casting. Check them out. You will be glad you did.

Hi when you port the transfer ports do you smooth them? Or just leave them as you did in the video. I have a cylinder what has been ported but you can see the tooling marks

NEVER grind a "knife edge" on the divider in the transfer ports, it WILL kill the smooth flow and create a "disturbance" in the flow into the transfer ports and a reduction in torque and horsepower! A flow bench WILL prove this.

remember u should not knife edge transfer feeds, make a rounded edge, then it helps flow like a bulbous bow on a ship.
@Majski900R
@Majski900R 9 жыл бұрын
+tpvalley i'm pretty much sure that you DO need to knife them. when those edges are as sharp as blade, the fuel/oil mixture doesn't hit that round surface. instead it slices it and moves quickier into combustion chamber. (sorry if my english is bad)

+Majski Todorovic nope, u get more friction as the charge flows along the walls of the transfer; consider a ships bow, the bulbous ends, u have a round end and it makes the charge flow better as it misses the sides sort of thing; trust me its a fact. :)

@@tpvalley Also if the knife edge isn't EXACTLY the same on both sides of the cylinder the flow will be distributed differently. One side will get more flow to the main transfer, the other will get more to the secondary, and if there are three transfers per side that's potentially an even bigger mess.
