See this is what will really make self driving cars take off. If you can just take your car to a garage and make it self driving for under £1000/$1000, that'll be a way bigger game changer than all these fresh-made self driving cars.

That is probably one of the biggest disasters in the making I have ever seen. It can't drive like a human unless it has sensory input like a human. One camera taped to the front of the car is not enough. Also, he said it would be user installed like putting together a piece of IKEA furniture. How many people putting together IKEA furniture have 2 or 3 nuts and bolts left over after assembly? Probably 65% or higher. You get my point.

What happens when a manufacturer says it voids the warranty or insurance companies drop you or don't cover autonomous cars. Obviously in the long run we would hope that changes but there have been countless companies that failed because they were ready and the market wasn't.

I'm more curious how they'll deal with liability. Also, if this is truly under a thousand dollars the government should require and incentivize (by perhaps paying for the system -- the price is cheap for the amount of deaths and damages that will be avoided) all compatible cars to have it for safety features like autonomous braking.

it's important because our roads are full of human drivers. google's AI car recently crashed BECAUSE it was following the rules of the road to the letter (expecting an another car to give way, since according to road rules it should have) - but in reality humans don't follow every single rule to the letter.
