This guy is so smart, watching interviews and his videos shows this guy knows what he’s talking about. He wants to be android and I totally believe he will be

this is good news, hopefully he makes sure he has funding secured, and doesn't give too much power to his investors...

Wow. A maverick whiz here. Big balls to turn down multi-millions from Tesla just to do his own thing.
@MrPietpatat5 жыл бұрын
He turned it down because Musk turned the contract into an option to buy the tech at the last moment. Which is a huge difference because with an option there is no guarantee that he will be paid for his work.

Outstanding interview. A very nice overview of autonomous driving and AI, and where the industry stands. The industry needs more leadership like Geore Hotz who can speak directly without excessive hype and defense of high-priced OEM safety and autonomous technology. Safety and cost has been and always will be the driving force behind the adoption of new vehicle technology. George is one of the few who openly admit that smartphone AI tech can replace decades of manufacturer investment in head units, navigation, infotainment, and now safety and autonomous driving. It is a hard sell for manufacturers to charge a premium for statistically unproven safety and autonomous capability, given that the insurance industry and the legislative bodies have not been presented with enough data to provide consumers with significant vehicle or medical insurance savings. The gap will remain, except for the stellar efforts of those like George, who truly understand the quickly evolving future of transportation. Can Bloomberg Tech also help dispel the myth ... the similarly silly idea that consumers are willing to pay for expensive and short-lived batteries embedded in their EVs, which can not be charged-refueled in the same or less time than a petro fill up at the gas station? Clearly energy module swaps either by a roving fleet of trucks or at designated fueling stations is the way to go. Then the cost of energy storage can be amortized by the energy distribution industry like it is today for vehicle gasoline and diesel. It is a silly notion that average consumers want to pay up front $10,000 more for a proprietary EV battery systems that need to park-and-charge vs refuel as quickly as gas tanks (5 minutes or less), or pay thousands extra for self-driving cars. Consumer value proposition and common sense dictates there must be an ROI, safety, and better maintenance (fueling time/cost and vehicle servicing) which will give consumers the incentive to purchase that new, high-tech, autonomous EV.

the idea is to charge it at home. if you wanna do long road trips, a hybrid is better so you still benefit from fueling at a gas station in 5 min but gain huge fuel efficiency perks

I am a big fan of self driving car, but I wonder if this action will hind the self driving technology development , because it likely “unmotivate” other company to invest in this field since there is a free version there.

Just curious about which automobile manufacturer in Shenzhen China that George has paid a visited to.
@KeepOnRecord7 жыл бұрын
Maybe just a manufacturer for his OpenPilot hardware. It's mostly car agnostic, so it doesn't really matter. He's maybe trying to shift from using a smartphone at this point.

but this time, the "android" will be more powerful than "iOS" cause its user scale
@knifeyonline7 жыл бұрын
like he said, 80% of all phones run android. There is no doubt android is more powerful than iOS
@charlech5 жыл бұрын
Problem here is that Android is able to dominate because iphones stopped innovating and stay expensive. Whereas our God Emperor Musk will keep making Teslas affordable and innovate at a faster pace.

Joseph Stott I prefer iOS though thing is that iPhones are expensive and it became one of status to being rich so yea otherwise I like iOS operational system more

I thought Tesla technology was being open-sourced, to accelerate EVs. Why is auto pilot excluded from their open-source philosophy?
@CortezBumf7 жыл бұрын
The Tesla auto pilot network's metadata is kept in-house using every Tesla car as a way to train the fleet. The point of comma.ai is to do the same thing, and open source this driving metadata for all to use and benefit from.

he turned down elon musk and a million dollar bonus?.. lets hope he doesnt regret that decision
@domse167 жыл бұрын
dont trust the media... Elon Musk changed the contract where after he would sign it, George would work for him, once the build is finished,presented, and liked (only then George would be paid). As in, no trust - no pay, basically a no respect contract. Obviously it has to be turned out. I think as Elon Musk is a great guy, he is getting too deep into the business where power and corruption is all around him.
@MrPacMan366 жыл бұрын
Not only that, but it also allowed Elon to fire him after the tech was built and keep everything after this kid got paid.
