Thank you! You are doing what I am about to do. So its nice to see it happen. I am planning on doing some spray can paint and then coat it.

The areas of the hood that are white and flaky is the failed clearcoat. If you want it to look good you need to sand off the white flaky stuff and get down to the color coat (basecoat). When clearcoat fails it delaminates from the basecoat and makes that hazy, rough, flaky looking mess. Once you get past the clearcoat it will be a different color tone and dull. Then the product you used will look much better applied over the affected area.

I think he was going for that patina shine look. Looks fine to me.

How long before it cracks, peels, chips or fades?

@@pl1532 that’s a great question. Only time will tell.

Depends on how good if a job you do when preparing and applying. If you take the usual short cuts you'll have problems.

There was a lot of oxidized and failed clear coat that needed to be removed.
@JohnEngel6 ай бұрын
Yeah I definitely could have done more. I wanted to see what would happen if I just cleaned and applied. Still looks about 60% better but you are correct.

There is another product that takes the thin layer of bad clear off. 😊

This doesn’t actually work properly. It looks nice for a little while but then the underlying issue will break through and make it look like as it did. I did my own plus my dads car, and it looked nice when I sprayed the Clearcoat after a sand, but after a month it looked like the underlying problem broke through and cracked the clear coat I had sprayed on. The clear coat method will work if it’s not bubbly like the OPs video, where you can just see the paint, but when it’s like this, to get it to a good state, you have to repaint it in my opinion
