0:38 is a response to a rival male in its territory. the owl makes itself look bigger to scare away the intruder. 0:46 see how the male barn owl is crouching down? it's being submissive to the dominant male; it clearly does not want a fight. 1:15 this is called the tall-thin position. it is what happens when an owl is confronted by a foe it can't win a fight against. it shrinks down its feathers and does not move, and it blends into its surroundings to not be seen by predators. (yes, bigger owls will sometimes hunt and eat smaller owls!) this video is cool because it shows both responses! it's good for study. :)

I don't think the "evil owl" one is meant to be a threat display. It looks like camouflage. It's compressing its body to its thinnest shape, increasing the contrast of the shape of its ear tufts, and it's hiding its eyes. It's trying to look like a branch. Makes sense that it would only try an aggressive deterrent tactic with an owl it could potentially take in a fight: with larger owls, the threat display wouldn't work, and it wouldn't be able to hold its own in a fight, so it attempts to blend into the branch it's on. Really cool

He actually is wright! It' not mimiking any other bird, it's just camouflage: it narrows its whole body, and narrows its eyes and hides its belly as the parts of its body that are the most likely to be seen (=with the lighter colors). In a forest, this increase the chances that it won't be repeared be an owl way to big for him (by, indeed, mimicking a broken trre branch or this type of texture). Plus, a falcon or a hawk are not higher in the food chain than an owl, they are at the same level. An eagle owl has no reason to fear a kestrel for example, as the owl is way bigger.
