The reason why Optimus' truck mode was different for the movies was because if they used the G1 truck mode, he would've been 20ft. tall. The new truck mode added 2ft. That 2 ft. was well worth it, wouldn't you say?

I can easily say this is the best Optimus Prime movie figure. Almost no kibble, perfect pose ability, and entirely movie accurate. Although there some things I wish it could do better, like giving him his energon blades, his actual gun (the gun it comes with actually belongs to Megatron in the movies). Finally the faceplate. But there are some versions of this figure that comes with the faceplate, like the grey version you showed and the Platinum version which replaces the grey with the chrome. There are also two versions with flames, one is more movie accurate while the other has a creamy white instead of red. But my favorite version is the battle damaged version which is this figure but with extra detail to the AOE movie.

The reason why optimus prime was a different truck is because Michael Bay wanted optimus to be bigger. If the old design was used optimus would have been 20ft. tall. The new design gave optimus a maximum hight increase of 2 feet. Well worth it wouldn't you say?

JobbytheHong I actually figured that out myself because I noticed that optimus doesn't really hold it by the actual handle and I watched the dorm movie and saw that Megatron had a gun that suspiciously looks like the gun that this prime holds. So I tried it out and you may notice a rectangular tab on the end of the gun, and there is a hole on the side of Megatron's hand and the gun fits perfectly.
