Transformers Beast Wars Cybershark Vintage Re-Issue Chefatron Review

Hasbro actually acquired Kenner before this figure came out. They had already bought off Kenner in 1991, five years before the Beast Wars toyline even started. After the rapid decline of interest in the Transformers brand around the time of Generation 2, Hasbro was looking for a way to innovate the franchise in order to save it which, as we all know, led to the creation of Beast Wars. When the toyline first released in 1996 they shifted the production and branding to Kenner in order for Hasbro to focus on more lucrative franchises and not waste anymore time and energy on an seemingly doomed one. It wasn't until two years later in 1998 that the line would be once again rebranded under the Hasbro banner in europe, with the US and Canada following the next year.

Great review Chefatron. These figures are alittle expensive, yet so nostalgic. I love the shark, robot mode and the gimmicks are cool as well. Eventhough it's kind of a shell former it actually works for me, because I see it as extra armor. Once again great review.

Just got this figure he's pretty good, one of my favourites of the reissues so far and I'd love if they did a Legacy one down the line (maybe Voyager?). Need to get Wolfang next.

@@chefatron this is hasbro we are talking about though lol they hardly listen to any of us and just throw scraps to us like we are dogs. Mind you though, the 86 series line is super good so they did that right but like you said they really should've released the more popular ones. I think they are filling the gaps ppl ha e in their old collections, which is nice but overly late. Like the tfp 2 back with the jet vehicon amd breakdown. It's super cool, and maybe that's a bad referal because so many wanted those two tfs but it had been over ten years lol and then this shark comes out looking awesome old school and they can't even fix the joints ? I don't get it . Other then maybe the ppl that DO care are getting stuff out and then being fired >

I definitely prefer his Transmetal 2 form (weird how he goes from a hammerhead to a great white though). The Transmetals and Transmetal 2s are my favorite version of almost every character because they tend to have less kibble and everything looks like it belongs together.

@@chefatron Yeah, a bigger Transmetal Optimus, a bigger Transmetal Megatron that I can transform without having to worry about his shoulder plates snapping off, a Transmetal Rattrap and Rampage that can actually stand up on their own. Too bad Hasbro seems to favor the season one forms. More iconic, I guess.

I never had this version of Cybershark... oddly I never had any version of this mold and this was remolded and repainted several times. BWII Hellscream, Universe Overbite, and Neo Sharp Edge were all made from this mold. I always wanted one because I love aquatic Transformers and especially the Hammer Head shark. The robot mode does look terrible with the hammer head on his chest but it's not that bad when you take the head off and use it as a melee weapon. I will say Sharp Edge because it's a swordfish the head makes a far better melee weapon but it's even worse as you can't actually leave the head on his chest at all. I don't know if the ball joints were always that loose or if that's from the mold being reused so many times being that this is now the 5th release of this mold. I know there are other Beast Wars figures that have had similar issues when the mold has gotten a lot of use later releases tend to have loose ball joints compared to the original.

I have still OG Cybershark in my Collection! In good condition, only the ball joint for the head become loose over the years. 😣well i have to keep an eye out for polish or super glue to fix thise,

Being a huge fan of both Beast Wars and Street Sharks as a kid, I love this figure. Unfortunately, it's very hard to find one complete at good price in the aftermarket, either the missiles, the weapons, or the shark fins are missing. I'll wait till I find an original one, because this reissue seems to be a bit loose at the joints.

@@chefatron I actually found the last one at my local Walmart and almost overlooked it because it was thrown sideways. Was bitching to a friend that "I wish they'd get more than 50 Tigatron ...." And then proceeded to see it out the corner of the eye. I actually just opened like 6 or seven basic figures and him. Have hammerbyte, cybershark and cybershark t2 again finally. You've given much worse Kingdom figures higher scores than 6/10. This one has a great look, transformation, and tons of gimmicks. It has some kibble and only ball joints for articulation, but none of it problematic. It's not like the breakage issues you have on modern ones.
