Transformers - Custom Paint Job - Megatron - Studio Series Voyager-class

Here he is! The fantastic Studio Series Megatron looks even better with a new paint job, and I'm extremely happy to have this repaint complete and ready to share with you. In this video, I talk about the paints and techniques I used to do this custom, and show some comparisons to a few other figures. Where do you get the tamiya paint

Transformers Optimal thanks! I appreciate that a lot. I get my Tamiya paints at my local hobby shop, where they sell plastic models and RC vehicles. You can probably find them at online hobby stores too.

To make him look dirty and battle damage, get a dry erase marker and put it on the cracks and parts on him and he'll look like that

Was about to ask for what paint you use but glad you shared. Are the paints water proof or do you have to put a clear coating on it???

LadiesMan 217 Thanks for watching! I did put a clear coat on him, it was a matte coat spray from Testors. It definitely helps to protect the paint and make it more durable.

What is the ratio of thinner and paint when you mixed them? Great job btw

Rodito Sevilla thanks! I seem to recall doing 2 parts silver to 1 part thinner. Seems to give good, smooth coverage and looks great after 2-3 coats.

i bought 2 rotf megatron for my custom 1 is the clean version that you did and the other 1 is rusted and clean version of him like little bit clean and a little bit of damage and a little bit of rust

swigitty swooty I'm coming for the booty the trick is to “pinch” them. Take your fingers and pinch them pretty good. The little nubs that hold them in is where you wanna focus your pressure. Really try to squeez those nubs in. It is a kinda simple fix but works great for me. Also if your pannel is a little warped from popping off frequently, take your moms hairdryer and shape it. When handling a the figure be mindful not to bend the piece straight up to the point that it will pop off. Hopefully this helps

Did the paint in the sword is not sticky because mine is so sticky

Mine isn’t sticky at all. Did you use a different type of paint? Some lacquers or enamels may not feel the same as the Tamiya Acrylics I used. Also - it’s possible the paint isn’t entirely cured. The stickiness may go away in time.

One question is the paint ur using look close to the silver paint Hasbro uses?? Because I want to paint my ratchets face but I want it to match with the other silver on his body.

Mix Match it is very close to the stock Hasbro silver paint, but it is not an exact match. The difference is slight, so if you are just painting accent parts of his face, then you should be fine. If you’re painting larger pieces, you might be able to tell that it’s not a perfect match.
