I find your use of status effects such as Freeze and Confuse, and the grapple to disable your enemies very beneficial for a Hammer only build. However, even at max attack speed, hammers mess around my thinking in combat, as I go dual fists and one handed sword for the most part.

It's more the finishing attack after the rush that I like. I use all the weapons though, just depends what I'm doing and which character I'm doing it on. I initially really liked the hammer because I main Grimlock and you can grab after a half charge with Grimlock. The reason I really like Hammer Optimus is because he can dodge offset his hammer charges, unlike Grimlock (it doesn't work) and with all vehicle speed techs he can just drive away from enemy attacks then come back and do the rush to hammer finisher starter. For some reason shove also counts as the first hit of his triangle combo. Again, doesn't work with Grimlock. Optimus: ultimate Autobot warrior for a reason!

+Morninglord22 Actually, I've been using the hammer (An S rank Ice hammer) after seeing how you and John Chin use it, and I am starting to love the weapon on Prime Difficulty. I started applying some of the ideas you shared to me and have really advanced my game a bit. It gives me so much needed Crowd control with the weapon's large attack arcs, especially when I don't do well fighting more than one enemy (I guess my build pertains to mostly 1v1 situations). Thanks for making me reconsider a weapon that I had an originally negative opinion. Also, your Grimlock still makes my jaw drop at times. Like seriously, I may stay an Optimus Prime main until I stop playing this game, but sometimes I try Grimlock and Bumblebee out, and the results usually come out sour.

I always do well at characters that can respond to being set back (parried) with smashing (dino belly flop command attack straight out of parry stun). With that said, you don't see all my failures, and for all these challenges I've had a lot of failures. Whenever I get hit I return to the ark and retry. Even easy fights can take a half an hour of retrying, and difficult fights have literally taken me days, or even weeks as I go away and come back to it a few days later. Challenge 2 took me several solid days of trying. I've got over a hundred hours in this game and beating story mode the first time through is only about 10 of it. The rest is challenges! I find this game extremely challenging to no damage, which is why I always go for it. I like it when its so hard I'm shaking after a victory.

One aspect I notice about hammer prime after experimenting with him is that dodging with a full hammer charge not only keeps your charge, but you're put into a state where you can execute all charge attacks up to three times in succession (depending on your dodge count).

Really? I still haven't played that much with him. You mean you can instant release several times in a row without charging in between just with dodge offset?

Yep. With the hammer launcher you can get so much higher in the air. Since optimus is the only one who can dodge offset his hammer charges, its exclusive to him. I first noticed this occurrence in this video at 00:55: kzbin.info/www/bejne/paubmJednMt1obs I experimented with it some more and it turns out those additional charged attacks are dependent on your dodge count, so you can wait until it resets to take full advantage of the technique. It looks cool and deals lots of damage/increases the attack rate of the hammer by a little. The execution of air charge extending and ground charge extending is slightly different. From what I've experienced, you need to gun offset each charged air attack before tapping the dodge button to pull off another one. Simply touching the dodge button before a vehicle flash is all it takes to extend ground charges.

Regarding the score you get for overdrive, does the game grade you higher the longer you maintain it? I've been challenging myself to reach max overdrive and maintain it as long as possible.

I'm not sure. I think it grades you on how many times you hit max overdrive. I haven't really tested that part of the scoring system. You could have a look into it if you like.
