Man, I really don't think this trailer is that bad. So much so that when I saw it, I was hyped. The trailer focuses too much on humor, but it's not like it's promising exactly the story that the movie is against. There are several details in the trailer that prove this. The marketing may not have been the best, but I think the reputation of the Transformers franchise in cinema and the prejudice that people naturally have against animations are things to consider as well.

So from I gathered this movie; 1. Takes place LONG before the Golden Age of Cybertron 2. Not all cybertronians have a vehicle mode and need to be given a T-Cog 3. The Quintessons are basically in charge and will have to fought be against by the cybertronians like in G1 and the other continuities 4. Orion and Megs are pretty much teenagers here before taking on being a Records Clerk and Gladiator and just laborers 5. Cybertrons surface is closed off by most of the populace I’m a bit iffy on the humor but it makes sense given it takes place before the Bots and Cons fight for the next 4 Million years

Not trying to defend the movie, but that's their origin story for the aligned continuity. In the original 80s cartoon, Orion was, from what I remember, a factory worker, and Megatron was built entirely for fighting. In IDW, Optimus started as a cop, and Megatron went from Miner to gladiator to revolutionary leader to dictator. Every iteration of transformers has their own origin story. Buuuuut. This still looks bad and seems like they just grabbed the look and feel of Lightyear, the plot of Bionicle 2, and for some reason I'm thinking the Lego Ninjago Movie...dunno why that one comes to mind.

Remember! when Transformers animated was first announced, people hated how it looked, when Transformers Prime was first announced people hated the designs. As an actual life-long TF fan I'm noticing little bits of pretty deep and obscure Transformers lore sprinkled throughout this trailer (Megatronus, the Quintessons, Alpha Trion). The people making this know TF well and I have a feeling this is going to be really genuine and deliver the deep emotional TF story we've been wanting . I think the knee-jerk negative reaction is due to the aesthetic returning to the G1 cartoon/TFA style. People who got into the franchise with the bay-verse will need to adjust but I i think having a character-driven story (or god forbid a story at all) will be worth it.

One question that I keep asking with new transformers media is " will Grimlock be there?"

Considering the Dinobots were made by Wheeljack once the Autobots were on Earth I'd say no, but that's assuming they stick to continuity.

@@somat111 true but in the Aligned Continuity, Shockwave had made the Dinobots also in War Within, the Dynobots were a special team of autobots but they had like, tanks or smth I remember Grimlock especially being a cybertronian tank

This feels to me like a soft reboot aimed as a younger generation's entry-point into the franchise. I honestly can't fault them for that. It's taking some bits and pieces of older established lore and adding a new twist on it! I'm actually very eager to see what my younger nieces and nephews think of this film, because it looks like fun! I'm gunna give it a chance, because even if this isn't meant for me, we still have other mediums and things to look forward to: The New Video game, the continuation of the Live-Action universe and the toys are still being pumped out en-masse. I think, no matter what kind of Transformers you're into, there's a piece of the franchise out there for everyone to enjoy & that in itself is awesome!

I’m thinking it might be like TMNT: Mutant Mayhem. Enjoyable but not aimed at someone in my demographic. And that’s not a bad thing.

@@Navek15 That is EXACTLY the movie I was thinking of! I can understand that it's sense of humor is not aimed towards me, but that just means it'll be easier for others to get into it! I hope it does well, because at the very least, the CGI looks great! And the voice-work and cast sounds pretty good as well.

Well, it's a good thing you're being honest about this because the sad part about myself being a Transformers fan ever since the 2000's is that I also wanted to have fun with this movie but but can't due to living in the fun-hating fandom's "want what's best for the franchise" rule. And that has sorta led me to thinking about if I should retire from being the Transformers fan when I'm done seeing this movie or not because every fandom like Transformers is always a "No Fun" zone nowadays :( Have you ever felt the same way about fandoms of franchises being "No Fun" zones nowadays like I did?

Fans who still want to enjoy the stuff they like as kids but are now embarrassed by the goofier and 'kiddy' parts that they used to love. And rather then just accepting those things as part of its charm or just moving on to something else that better fits their tastes, they feel the need to complain hoping their fav franchise will get 'darker' and 'more mature' if they badger, harass, and complain to enough people.
