I feel this is about perfect for the younger audience it's intended for. Lights. sounds, spring loaded gimmicks, and a simple transformation will definitely appeal to children moreso than the more involved Studio Series figures and or Legacy figures. That said, if featured in the movie will definitely hold out for a Studio Series Leader Class of this design as fully realized/articulated/painted this could be an absolutely top tier Optimus Prime. The Beast mode gimmick though feels too ridiculous for the film and more/less inspired for the toys. Good indication is the off road Bumblebee which has a similar toy in this scale also has the Studio Series deluxe release with no hint of a beast mode other than the updated vehicle mode. Time I guess will tell.

You know, you may be into something with the alternate vehicle mode theory. The designers mentioned how SS ROTB Prime had started as a retool of SS38 but ended up getting altered to the point of being more of a new mold entirely, so I’m wondering if all that retooling went into making his bulkier vehicle mode?

That might be because the truck mode of Bumblebee Optimus was based off of the one from Evasion Optimus from AOE and not the final one from the Bumblebee film and its upgrade in ROTB, but we can't rule out that possibility.

It's a reverse Transmetal. Transmetals can gain vehicle attributes in a bestial altmode, this gains bestial attributes in robot mode.

So Optimus is trying to become the King of Braves, GaoGaiGar I'm passing on this, however, I would like for them to do a Legacy Beast Hunters Optimus prime, the original toy wasn't to bad but it did suffer from a few poor desgin choices and a bad choice on the head, they took away his iconic face mask to give him a mouth which made him look horrible in robot mode, while the Nemesis verison fixed that and gave him the face mask along with the trans red plastic to make him look more evil!
