That transformation looks so fun. Lots of large pieces moving around, NO FIDDILY PARTS, satisfying clicks, and things actually hold together. That's the kind of transformation I want... it seems like such a breath of fresh air for a transformation.

It's basically the exact same as the MechFansToys Legends Scale transformation. Still bought him though as I love Ultra Magnus and this is probably the second best version of him, only the X-transbots version is better.

Finally Ultra Magnus getting the respect he deserves. He's such an underrated and mistreated character in most things he's in. He's incredibly powerful and this figure captures that vibe perfectly! This is absolutely someone worthy of leading the Autobots and standing up to Megatron/Galvatron! I hope we can see an IDW commander class Ultra Magnus in the future, with his MTMTE design. Takara Combiner wars Magnus was close to being perfect but could definitely use an update. That design is 👌👌👌

THEY WERE ALWAYS OPAGUE AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN OPAGE. this couldve been fine IF THEY DIDNT PUT SPRINGS ON THE FRAGILE CLEAR PLASTIC. they are also supposedly going for an opague aesthetic for windows in ss86. The guns are also pointlessly clear plastic. Also, who asked for a spring-loaded matrix chamber?

Also I want to elaborate, kingdom Magnus having a clear chest doesnt bother me because they were going for a different desighn. This only bothers me specifically on commander magnus because they had every reason and opportunity to use opague plastic and simply did not, just so they could continue something that only ever had any point in existing in titans return.

I personally hate complex transformations. I also have absolutely no problem with partsformers & shellformers. I only care about the final product after the transformation. The actual transformation isn't important to me at all & I want to get the transformation done as fast as possible.

This guy is definitely my most anticipated figure of the last few years! I was never a fan of the siege mould when it came out, and I kept hoping for an earth mode version. Then when the SS86 sub-line got announced I was really hoping we’d finally get the super accurate Ultra Magnus, but instead we got the kingdom “earth mode” figure; which I skipped out on; because I still had hope we’d get the SS86 version. And boy am I glad that I waited, because this guy looks phenomenal! And this was another fantastic review as always PvP :D

I was surprised to not see you comment on the stress marks that the low front panels (of the trailer) get when you tab them in. Mine got them by just trying to tab them normally and I freaked out. Hm. Really cool. While I’ve just got and like Siege Magnus, this definitely looks like an upgrade. I will say though that I do have a couple issues with him. 1. He’s too big. While it makes sense that he’d be big since he transforms from his truck and trailer, he shouldn’t be bigger that Grimlock and I especially don’t like him being that much bigger than Galvatron because while I haven’t read the British Marvel Transformers comics, I like the idea of Magnus and Galvatron being rivals and I don’t think either should really have a hight advantage over the other. Commander is definitely the price point for Magnus but it’s definitely not the size for him 2. He looks like he has the weirdest looking Hot Rod shoulders ever. While the arms aren’t mounted in the body, his arm isn’t hinging out from his shoulder. 3. I’m starting to find a weird annoyance with TF figures recently in that they get the shin to thigh ratio wrong. His thighs and shins should be the same length if you want a figure to take a knee Besides those. He looks like a great figure and if I can’t find Armada Prime around Christmas time, I might grab Magnus.

The problem isn't that COMMANDER class Ultra Magnus is bigger than Grimlock. That's just a function of needing the commander price point to do him justice. The problem is we need a COMMANDER class Grimlock to pair with him :-) Maybe a 3rd party will scale 86 Grimlock up and give us a better scale. We've seen similar happen with movie Grimlock.

Thanks for the excellent review. I was going to cancel this because the figure is fairly wide and the price is close to $100. Pretty high in my opinion and I was almost satisfied with the old version. But after seeing your review, the engineering is so great and Hasbro did a lot for this figure. I think they did everything I could ask for and the price seems good for what we are getting.

A more direct comparison would be with CW Ultra Magnus, which was also a cab and trailer turning into a robot. I really like that figure but it looks like SS86 UM has better articulation and seems more substantial. I have the older UM and the new one on pre-order, so it will be interesting to see how they match up.

i never did get ultra magnus when i was a kid. sadly, the only thing i got from that 86 film (which i saw in the theaters) was trauma-filled tears!😢 Looking at the original ultra magnus now, though, it looks kinda like a brick with arms.

Not the biggest fan of the sculpting, but I think it's pretty much the definitive version of Magnus in terms of mainline toys. I do want to say though, I AM impressed by this Studio Commander Class Magnus just for the fact that the designers managed to make the cab and trailer work together to form the robot mode. Still though, much prefer my Kingdom Magnus

While I'm definitely getting the Armada Prime, Ultra Magnus is still a must. very much Like Galvatron, Rodimus, and IMO Ironhide/Ratchet this is for anybody who's waited literally for years for proper, well iterations of these G1/movie characters with modern engineering. Most amazing to me is how not one mode is sacrificed/compromised for the other. Though the truck is mostly hollow it still looks fantastic, properly fills out the bot mode completing even the back, and the trailer is both functional and super articulate. The additional light piping is also a nice surprise as is the selection of weaponry/blast effects.

Just got this guy in the mail. He's AWESOME! You definitely make lining up all the parts to make the truck very easy, though. Mine was difficult and the truck part popped off. But this guy is a great piece. The limbs popping off seems like it is where a decent chunk of the price went. Would've preferred that spent on some paint/ accents on the cab of the truck, some better shoulders, and a clip to hold the arms in robot mode.

I really wanted the inner white prime, but ultimately I think that this was the best way to make Magnus here. The transformation is just incredible. That said, the fact the cab can separate from the trailer makes me really hope we get a separate release for a compatible white prime. Would really give the best of both worlds for everyone, without hindering this figure.

Now *this* is the best mainline Magnus ✅ Screen accuracy (front and back, both modes) ✅ Excellent transformation (minimal kibble, no backpack) ✅ Playability (guy comes apart, can store other bots and even has a ramp) ✅ Non-intrusive gimmicks (spring loaded Matrix chamber, detachable limbs and the aforementioned ramp)
