The character on the Decepticon logo is the Chinese character 'yang' which means both 'goat' and 'sheep'. Hope that answers your question. :) Btw, I'm totally getting this figure! Not only I'm born in the year of the goat, but Soundwave is one of my absolute favorite transformers! So this figure is specially made for me! XD Can't wait to get my hands on it!

I finally gave in and bought this because im weak for soundwave and blaster in the same way most people are for optimus prime and the price was so damn cheap because it seems like everyone hated this color scheme. For a 105 bucks shipped it was a no brainer and I'm so glad I have him. Never been a fan of translucent figures but this guy is great and you get so much for your money.plus if I ever decide i don't like the clear plastic anymore, it's easy enough to break out the airbrush and paint him up in whatever colors I feel like.

The clear plastic does give it a nice look but I'm hoping they'll do something flashier for the Year of the Rooster. Perhaps revisit the color scheme of YOTH Optimus on another OP toy; perhaps the Beast Hunters or Cybertron Primes?

When I saw these turning up on eBay I thought they were ugly as hell, but the more I look at it, the more I'm actually digging the aesthetic and the translucent plastic actually looks good for a robot figure (whereas it looks stupid when it's supposed to be the Invisible Woman or other humanoid figures). I'm still not sure about the orange that Hasbro calls "bronze" but man oh man, to get him for $114 or so at BigBadToyStore with all the cassettes, versus paying the same for Soundblaster who just has Ratbat or double that just for Soundwave and Laserbeak, I'm almost sold on this version. Almost.

I can't seem to get soundwave's leg - same side as the eject button - to snap into place when transforming into tape player mode. The arm doesn't seem to want to fold out all the way so as to allow the leg to click into place. I actually can get it to click into place if I move the back arm out somewhat; however, once I try and move the arm back down the leg pops out again. The other leg clicks in with no problem whatsoever. I can see where the rear placeholder for the gun is not allowing the arm flap to fully fold open. :(

I got this recently, and I must say that while I wasn't a fan of how the tapes were done - the bronze on Soundwave I didn't mind, but that predominantly gray of the tapes is bad and in need of a little bit more paint - there's no denying that this thing is GLORIOUS!!! It ain't taking the title of Favorite Masterpiece away from Starsaber (nothing can do THAT), but it is truly a beast. UPDATE 2019Apr02: Yeah, I probably should've chimed in sooner...that clear plastic *DOES NOT* hold up over time!! I got this in March 2017, it was almost junker tier by January 2018!! I'm tempted to get the THF KO or something.

At first I thought I would never buy this, but considering the original is going for $300+, I thought I'd try it as a birthday gift for my 5 year old. I have to agree that the colors seemed horrible at first when seeing online, but in this video and in person, the clear and bronze is striking. I think the cassettes would be better with color, but still not bad. Soundwave himself is almost like a modern interpretation of the classic whereas the original Masterpiece shows its age. Sure, I would definitely get the original with a re-issue, but this really is a much nicer figure than I thought it would be. Also this is a very sturdy mold as stated, and my 5 year old has only snapped off the finger so far (to be expected as even adult collectors would snap it off!)

I love all the Optimus prime figures, but I don't like the year of goat version compared to year of the horse, but I love this Soundwave, will be picking up this one but not the Optimus prime this year, maybe year of monkey release will be better, and yes the symbol on the logo is Chinese which stands for goat, they worked it into the artwork just like the horse character for last year.

Gustavo Barrios And the craptastic Hasbro instructions do absolutely NOTHING to tell which is which. The box doesn't even say, either. Would've been smarter if they had given them their correct colors (red for Beak, yellow for Buzz) like they did with Rumble & Frenzy, instead of the gold & silver. However...there's been some instances I read about the camera on Laserbeak's head refusing to open up...and the gold one has that same problem, so...maybe the gold bird is Laserbeak.

I find it strange that TRU is asking $190 for this goofy looking not-quite- soudwave, when the *real* SW was like $120. I don't get why Hasbro keeps making strange colored reissues of figures? Ones that most people are not going to be as interested in, when they could simply make more of the real deal originals that TF fans actually want. I lucked out and got one of the actual SW figures back when they were released, but many people couldn't get their hands on one, since they flew off the shelves so fast. Same thing with MP-10 Optimus. You simply *could not* find one in store *anywhere* near where I live. I had no choice but to spend $250 for one on ebay. But instead of reissuing him again at a reasonable price, they instead made that weird gold/clear generic looking nonsense Optimus. ??? Why do this Hasbro? What's next? Hot pink and lime green reissues? No thanks. Great review anyway though! :)

Bastian These "Platinum Edition" reissues/repaints have always been more expensive than regular releases. Making matters worse is that they're also Toys R Us exclusive (just like Habsro MPs) in America. But, because they are reissues & repaints, the value tends to drop faster than a hooker's panties; last I heard, HasbroToyShop had YotG Soundwave for $80 on their eBay page. And I don't know if it's true, but most eBay & some Amazon sellers have been rumored to have YotH Starscream for $50-$60 and YotH MP Prime for $55-$80...while the original Hasbro releases still command triple digit prices.

Yep, I don't really get it. I just hope that we continue to get Hasbro versions of MP Takara figures here in America. The regular G1 style figures seem to sell quite well as far as I can tell. I sure buy them up.

Agreed. But Hasbro seems to have NO rhyme or reason, they just drop what they want. For instance, we've gotten the Z Bros. (Prowl, Bluestreak, Smokescreen), but we haven't gotten Sideswipe, Red Alert, or Wheeljack yet. (If it's because of the deco for Wheeljack, that is no excuse, Hasbro could have it as stripped down as the Generations, Transformers Prime, & Combiner Wars versions of Wheeljack if they wanted to).

Bastian Given the laws concerning the appearance of toy guns, MP36 IS a pipe dream. Hasbro didn't even release the old MP05 Megatron. And Shockwave just doesn't seem likely unless somehow there's a MASSIVE interest in his character again. I don't think folks cared when the Fall of Cybertron & Dark of the Moon Shockwaves came out, and I doubt the popularity of TFP Shockwave was enough to offset that. -_-

I was born year of the Goat, although, I prefer calling it year of the Sheep. Strangely, Soundwave was always my favorite growing up and of course I had to have his MP figure. I don't like that Soundwave is a decepticon, though. Interesting that he does kind of fit the description of the Sheep/Goat, but I am not a decepticon fan. Go autobots!
