That’s one thing I always enjoyed about the franchise. The lack of a singular cohesive continuity encouraged kids like me to take their transformers toys and tell their own stories. I had figures from the unicron trilogy, the live action film, generations, animated. Basically figures from all across the mythos and I just came up with my own version of the transformers story, pulling ideas from the many different continuities. Anyways thanks for clearing up the confusion Chris. As an on-and-off lifelong fan of the franchise I struggled to wrap my head around the different retellings of the transformers story until I stumbled upon your channel last year.
@Spike-Prime2 жыл бұрын
Funny thing is, the creators did exactly the same thing with the franchise in the pages of Timelines and the Transformers Collectors' Club Magazine (you can read those for free online if you look). There's this thing called Axiom Nexus which is a multiversal hotspot where Transformers from across the multiverse keep meeting up. So you get Animated 2007 characters meeting Bayverse characters and G1 folks, etc, all the time. It's great! Only they have a major rule: No Optimus' or Megatrons. They make things messy, haha.

Excellent work! I've been diligently trying to cohesively unify the G1 toon, Wings Universe, Beast Wars, Beast Machines, the Beast Wars timelines comics (specifically Dawn of Future's Past, Descent Into Evil, and the Razor's Edge), and the Wreckers comics. Barring minor inconsistencies, it's fit together pretty well, with Wings Universe acting as basically an extension of the cartoon, tying in the Beast Era and it's stories, but altering them just enough to fit perfectly. It's really been useful for expanding the continuity as a whole. The only headache is Reaching the Omega Point, which has caused a myriad of problems, mostly involving Unicron. Now I hate him as much as the other characters do! 9 months later edit: I have scrapped using Wings Universe in favor of the Universe War storyline due to a couple of reasons that are rather convoluted. It's helped streamline things more.

Elita 1 and her fembots have adventures like 'my little pony'. Cobra vs deceptacon: this is more like a Hitler vs Stalin kind of story. Cobra has been stealing deceptacon tech and Megatron found out about it.

Thankfully we have things like Unicron to make it all fit. Since he can travel the "multi-verse" thats the franchises wild card for making all versions tie in.

Unfortunately that was changed several years ago. An event called ‘The Shrouding’ separated all universes and made any multiversal singularities separate as well. Now every Primus and Unicron are separate from each other, along with the 13 Original Primes.

Everything is canon, maybe to each other but to their own continuities.

@@foldabotZ oh i get that but up untill recent retcons. The covenant of primus specifically used Unicron as a method of keeping the "universes" separate with only him and Primus being the only beings to exist among all versions due to being multidimensional. I.e. if Marvels 616 never knew about any other versions of itself. And through that means if a person didnt like the Bay verse but say liked Bumblebee well then thats fine. You have a mechanism and lore backing up ignoring the one you dislike versus loathing it like a Star Wars fan. And its also a out for inconsistencies from the writters. Granet a lazy one but still a logical and pre set reasoning for things like the above mentioned example. Where one movie breaks the story of another because of small details. You can just say "well that was universe x and this is y." Basically giving the fans that froth at the mouth a way to step back chill out and just do the age old, "if you dont like it, dont mess watch it". Its how the Terminator/Transformers universe exsists along side the new My Lil Pony/Transformers universe.
@thatguywiththetripod85775 жыл бұрын
You know one thing I noticed about each Transformers continuity is that Robots in Disguise (2001) and Animated are the only continuity with only one representation each. G1 has the original cartoon, the movie, the Japanese series, and Beast Wars. The Unicron Trilogy has three full tv shows to it's name. (Armada, Energon, and Cybertron) The live action movies have 5 movies in the same continuity with Bumblebee as a separate sub-continuity. (But I'm not sure if Bumblebee is a brand new Continuity or not). And finally the Aligned Continuity has two video games and three series to be proud of. Unless I missed something, then the original Robots in Disguise and Animated with only one representation. I'm not counting comic books or anything like that since those are spinning off from their respective main continuity. I'm only counting stuff that continues the story of that respected continuity. So, yeah with all that in mind Animated and RID are truly unique among Transformers Continuity and as such makes then pretty special if you ask me as their our only glimpse into that corner of continuity.

This question has been bothering me my entire life; can Transformers lift weights or something to become stronger like humans? I think you know what I mean. So, if a transformer is not very strong, could they just workout, or do they have to transform into something bigger to become stronger. Like for instance, in physical strength, a small autobot like Arcee wouldn’t Mach up with Optimus. So, would she try to transform into a bigger vehicle. I say that because a semi truck is bigger than a motorcycle, and Optimus is a semi and Arcee is a motorcycle. So does strength matter on the size of vehicle? And what about mass? Someone like bumblebee couldn’t transform into a bigger vehicle like a Boeing jet, so would bumblebee be stuck with his strength? If you or anyone could answer these questions, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.
@ChrisMcFeely6 жыл бұрын
You don't see it so much today, but classically, "size" and "mass" didn't always necessarily factor into a Transformers' strength - Brawn, for instance, one of the smallest original Autobots, was also one of the strongest, outranked only in Tech Spec numbers by Optimus Prime. But logistically, if a bot's significantly BIGGER, then they're going to be proportionately STRONGER, because they have to be to carry the mass and weight of their own body around, so if someone like Bumblebee or Arcee could get themselves a bigger, tougher vehicle mode body, they're likely to get some strength increase - Bumblebee, in fact, did this in the IDW comics, going from dinky volkswagen to big tough movie-esque muscle car. That said, IDW's comics have featured the idea that the "animating force" of every individual's spark is different - that is to say, each 'bot's body can only be enlarged SO FAR before the spark can no longer animate it. So some bots can be HUGE because their spark is strong enough to animated such a body, but other HAVE to stay small because their spark can't properly animate a large body, which would be slow and weak despite its size. On the matter of working out, the Headmasters were once seen using gym equipment in the Japanese cartoon, but that was more about keeping themselves in tip-top physical condition than it was about actually increasing their strength via exercise, which it's hard to imagine would work for a robot.

I always thought that the toys themselves, specifically the tech specs, seemed to have their own separate continuity. For example, Jetfire is given the same rank as Optimus Prime, and the title Air Commander. But I don't recall him ever being in any leadership role. Also the Soundwave of the Tech Specs has a totally different personality from what he is given in the other stories.
@flametitan100 Жыл бұрын
I know this comment is 4 years old, but it's still a fun one. You would be correct. The toy bios don't frequently mesh with what we're actually given on screen. Probably the most famous example is the first wave of Beast Wars Toys (Bat Optimus Primal and Alligator Megatron) imagined the characters to be the original cast of Autobots and Decepticons, just taking on new animal forms in their constant war. It wasn't until the Cartoon was up and running that it shifted gears into a new generation of characters with similar names. And fun fact: Because of licensing deals in Europe, Hasbro couldn't release certain diaclone transformers into the region for its first few years, most notably Optimus Prime. Hence why they used Jetfire, a large toy based on the Macross Valkyrie and not produced by Takara, as the Autobot commander in the interim.

Progress from the era of Rodimus where they learn about making one in Cybertron.

You *have* to draw a line between, them, though - the American continuity has "The Rebirth," while the Japanese has "The Headmasters." They split in different directions at that point. I find it funny how one of the only major examples of a long running franchise which constantly reboots itself is the longest running film franchise, Godzilla

The continuity thing is the same with Marvel and DC. In fact, similarly to some Marvel and DC comics, sometimes the continuities collide, of which has happened a few times in the comics and also in Transformers Rise of the Dark Spark.

I grew up during the Unicron trilogy. I remember watching Transformers Energon and Transformers Cybertron.

I've always had a problem with the concept of continuity families. For instance, the only strong similarity between the IDW Transformers comics and the G1 comics and cartoon, is the names, and the designs, of characters. Personalities, backstories and mythos are so immensely different that it barely qualifies as a G1 family IMHO. Even the designs are so radically changed after a few years that it's basically unrecognisable from where it started. Yet Cyberverse, which is closer to the old canon in many ways, also has very G1 inspired designs, but is not considered part of G1/Primax universal cluster. All seems pretty arbitrary to me.

Each reboot series is different in their own thus feeling like a whole new universe so in all its's a multiverse of the same series all with one thing in common Autobots vs Decepticons

Notes on the Car Robots series: It's based on the ''Brave" series, hence why you'd see similar designs and plot devices from that franchise that bleed into this series. In a way, it's totally acceptable that Fire Convoy exists in the same universe as GaoGaiGar!

Same could be said for Masterforce, Victory, and Zone which shared/recycled designs/toys for the Brave series anime and vice versa. Dai Atlas' toy became Goryu from Might Gaine. Deathsaurus became Red Geist from Da Garn, and Sixshot became Kagero/Shadowmaru in J-Decker.

More like the upcoming Bumblebee movie contradicts the entire live action movie continuity AND it's own tie in material.

There are so many different stories,about the transformers franchise, you can always start a new series over again.
