When I was younger I built the model for that car. Don't remember if it was a Revell or Monogram kit. For a time the Futura sat in Barris's show room at his shop near Lankershim and Riverside Dr. in North Hollywood. When I would gas up at the Arco station on payday I would walk over and look in the window. When we heard that Batman was going to be a TV series I said they should take that car and make it the Batmobile. Darned if they did. Got a kick out of a custom golf cart Barris made for Bob Hope accentuating Hope's nose. It sat next to the Furura.

Wait. Barris did two of the three cars that made the most impact on me as a child (KITT, and the Batmobile), with only Dave Starsky's "Red Tomato" - the red Ford Gran Torino being left out? Wow. Legendary.

Yeah, his resume reads like a list of some of the best on screen cars ever made. What a hero!
