Transforming a 1920s cabinet into a dreamy BATHROOM VANITY! *first step painting the cabinet*

I always wanted to transform an old cabinet into a dreamy BATHROOM VANITY! Buying an old home built in 1899 I searched Facebook marketplace to find the perfect cabinet to make into a bathroom vanity that would be as close to time period of the home as possible but give it a new look!

I’ll be honest, I didn’t like the idea of painting the vanity…. But after seeing just the first coat… I LOVE IT ❤. And how exciting that a viewer is sending you the claw feet !! If it were me,I would use gold rub n buff to highlight the details on the cabinet. I think it would be beautiful and match that gorgeous tub ! ❤

I agree! Plus it appears you’d have less interference with the vanity if the tub was flipped & the plumbing was nearer to the corner wall. IMO. Love painting the vanity though!! 💙

I'm pretty sure I saw in a previous video that she wanted her tub to go in the other direction but couldn't because of the plumbing, or maybe it was structural.

What a nice thing to do! There are many different feet for tubs and not all are interchangeable. Hopefully, these fit perfectly to complete your beautiful bathroom!

Firstly, love the carpet! Perfect color, size and placement. The marine paint on the top is smart idea! That cabinet is going to be a show stopper when done! Your tube family loves you and sending you claws for your tub just proves it. Love this make over. Take of yourself and your 3 boys!!!

I have the same rug, but larger size, in our parlor. I love the colours and agree that it really stands up to wear. It's fun to be able to have a bit fancier things now that the kids are getting older. Raised bowl sinks and nice rugs.

My opinion only all ceiling and floor boards trim, window frames and door trim should be painted white. I think it will look stunning the green with white trim etc. I hope you don't get sick, feel better Phillip. Maybe you need a big pot of homemade chicken soup. When you are painting, using glue or anything that has odor or is toxic, put a window fan turned around in the window so it is sucking the odor out to the outside and turn it on. It will pull the smell out before it can spread throughout the house.

I love natural wood over paint but have run into this problem as well! I have an antique hope chest and wanted to re-stain it but I just couldnt get the water stains off the top. It is now painted white but after seeing you use the marine paint I may try that! The paint is discolouring and it looks dirty in some spots! I love the marine paint idea!!! Thank you!

I like the paint on the cabinet! Excited about the claw feet for the tub!!! I like the rug in there but I would lay it diagonally, put the tub diagonally with the faucet flipped around the other way, because that corner by the cabinet is going to be too busy and crowded. You will then be able to put a big plant in the corner away from the cabinet. Just please open up your mind to it!!! It will look simple but totally elegant!!! I think the controversary over a rug in the bathroom is mainly about having it too close to the toilet. Especially having 3 boys in the house, that could be pretty gross, especially if the rug isn't washable. Loved the guest stars on this episode!! 🐶

I probably would have left the top natural and just put a varnish on it, then paint the rest white. I use the cabinet paint from Home Hardware it gives a professional finish. But it is looking great.

So glad you painted the cabinet, I love white furniture :) I had a claw foot tub for many years and loved it, the cast iron really keeps the hot water hotter longer so you can have a good long soak, so relaxing. Love all that you are doing on your home :)

You got me inspired to redo my master bathroom too. I've got a very similar rug, by coincidence and a claw foot tub on purpose which was discounted when I first saw it, and when I put it into my online basket the price when down by half, so it was a huge bargain. Getting ready to tile the shower and tile the floor...yikes big projects, but if you can do all you do, I can get thru this too.
