I actually picked up two of the 2012 model Barbie Passport Jeep Cruiser (the hood, front grill and front wheel fenders on that model actually very closely resemble the VAMP's front side) over the summer in 2022 for this specific conversion. Got them on E-bay for $12 and $10 and am looking forward to when I get through a few other projects and can start on those two. Great conversion!

Bro you’re an OG, you’re supposed to know this maaangg 😂… rubbing the ENTIRE surface with isopropyl alcohol / rubbing alcohol with a cotton ball lifts the oils and factory coat that allows paint to adhere. Also running a blow dryer over and around the surface depletes that coat. You can also use scotch bright or rough side of a dish sponge 🧽 to to make the surface more abrasive that will allow primer to adhere. There is also Alclad plastic primer called “alclad clear base alc 303” that works wonders without all the aforementioned methods. Hope his helps.

It helps to use a high grit sandpaper as well. 2500 or higher. Then, clean it again with 90% alcohol

Rust-Oleum makes a plastic paint. You can use their matte black or any matte finish as a primer.

May need to dye it. That plastic is very soft. Using the heat shrink to join the frame was a smart idea.

Nice little custom. I'm hoping the Classified VAMP will be pretty high quality so I'm expecting more than $25 but nothing crazy.

I wouldn't expect high quality when Hasbro has already said that vehicles in the range will have far less detail than the upcoming H.I.S.S. Tank release...I would expect it to be more than $45 though if they ever do produce a VAMP or similar sized vehicle. The COIL and RAM cycles (with Baroness and Breaker) were $40 a piece. Even if a VAMP or similar vehicle doesn't come with a figure it'll likely be at least that much.

I’ve considered this jeep more than once… try heat annealing the plastic before painting with a heat gun or lighter, helps the paint stick… also helps with super gluing

Did you try hitting it with some surface primer first to keep the paint you use from chipping?

I didn’t. 🤣 That’s a great suggestion. I usually add some kind of primer but forgot I guess. Thank you for the suggestion. ✌️

@@toygigante Also sanding the plastic before you start anything to give it some surface area for the primer to really stick to would probably help quite a bit. No need to really damage it but just a light even scuffing across the plastic body, then primer then paint. Maybe you should get another and try again.

In the UK i paid £105 for the Hasbro Vamp. This Barbie toy comes with 2 dolls and a crap load of accessories for less than £25, as low as £18 in some places. For sure the plastic will need a good rubbing down and acid etch primer before a top coat but it's daft i can buy 4 of these vehicles for less than a Vamp and make 4 sets of kids happy with free dollies?

I have a couple of Mattel Barbie cars that were "hand-me-downs" including the '57 Chevy, '72 Corvette and a '64 Mercedes... The colors these cars came in are nauseating! Because of the value of these toys I'm afraid of repaiting them... Please advise, I've looked at the factory colors that were issued with these vehicles... I want the yellow Corvette to be either a light blue or dark green...what prime should I use? BTW... Great Video's!
