I know you’re waiting for the blooms, but I’m quite impressed with the variety of color in the foliage itself: plum, ruby, dark and mid to light green, the pale veins in the Jack Frost - and even the yellowing leaves - makes for a very fetching display. With all those hues, who needs flowers?!?!? 😊

On the other side of the house, I planted two more astilbe, added 16 creeping thyme, along the edge and completed the bed with 1 echinacea, and 4 turtle weed.. I hope to also add daffodil bulbs between the plants within 4 weeks. Next to a small seating area, I planted 2 Russian sage ... I enjoy your gardening adventures and you encourage me to go for it. Thank you so much.

Your love of nature, simple pleasures and exploring other countries & cultures and is a joy to watch. Thank you for sharing a peaceful and beautiful transformation of a shady spot. It gives me inspiration for my own garden. I’m going to try mixing some Jack Frost with my fav shady flowering plant, Tiarella Spring Symphony. The leaf structure and variegation is lovely and come spring they’re loaded with white firework flowers - gorgeous. I’d also recommend Sarcococca Winter Gems for evergreen interest. They flower in winter and have a beautiful perfume. I grew them for the first time last year in autumn/ winter pots with rainbow euphorbia, skimmia, a teeny blue spruce and some pansies. Loved it 😊

Catherine, what a beautiful refresh on your now part shade border. I like to name all the gardens I build. “The big dig” was the first one I did I on my own. Took a lot of digging sod out from under a large lilac bush & mulberry tree. I built my garden of hope in 2020, during the craziness. I created my garden of grace in 2021. After I had built a raised concrete border, filled with a couple of yards of soil, I went to plant trees & shrubs only to discover a buried patio. I had to excavate 5 large pavers. Grace was needed that day. Maybe this can be a remembrance garden to you mom. Sending hugs from 🇨🇦

Bush in the corner is a great idea. Something I learned from my Master Gardener class is that slugs don't like hostas with really thick leaves. In the test gardens I am learning from they've had the best results with those varieties. In my own personal garden i am starting to prep for fall plants like garlic, lettuce, Japanese broccoli, carrots and some flower seeds that need freezing temperatures to germinate.

Can't beat a freshly planted border ❤ I've lost so many plants this summer to black spot 😢 but this means I can start again with new ideas...every cloud!
@eleanormerry11683 ай бұрын
Black spot is treatable, the spores can overwinter in your soil and reinfect new growth the following season with the spores splashing up with rain or watering. Air flow around the plant can help the plant not get reinfected. Mulching the ground around infected plants may help as well. Removing and not composting infected leaves also helps.

I’m in Tx so we have really hot summers too. I can give u a suggestion for an annual that LOVES heat, and is really easy to grow from seed - gomphrena. They get huge and showy, and I get so many ppl that compliment them and ask me what they r. Sweet potato vine is also another annual that LOVES heat and it’s foliage is showy! I plant the lime green one, and let it meander thru my roses so it makes the dark green leaves from the roses and the color from the roses really POP! As for perennials - roses do well in the heat, and there r several that r rated for the colder zones as well. Just a few suggestions for what works in the heat. Hope this helps! ❤

Looks good now but when everything settles in and starts filling out and blooming it’s going to be amazing. Especially with some cyclamen to fill in. Lovely video. I just spent all day in my garden. I put an evergreen fern in today too. Not a tree fern though.

PS. the garden looks a lot better now, I can picture it more filled in with a couple years growth. I like the variety mix too. As for the fern tree, we don't have that in my area that I know of. You did mention it was in that pot for two years so it's definitely heavily root bound, you could have cut an X at the bottom of the plant before planting it to help free up the roots a little better than just pulling with your hands. I think as long as it's kept watered it should take. I would imagine a root feeder would be beneficial as well. Doesn't gardening help to distract you of your woes at times?! Blessings to you and your brothers for this upcoming Thanksgiving weekend. Much love from Canada!

Hi Catherine! Love the choices! I'm a big fan of the anemones and hellebores. No flowers from the hellebore I planted this year but the anemones are exploding🤩I want to seed a bunch different milkweed types in a spot next to my shed. Need to move lots of stuff but have to check when is best.

Everything looks lovely ❤ I love seeing you surround your home with life and beauty! Bees, flowers and birds heal our soul❤ I've only bought some burgundy mums to add Autumn color in my Florida garden. It's just about the only way to get that Autumn vibe in this 90º weather. 🍁

Talking Tree Fern... not... he was looking at your beautiful blue eyes and giving you a tree fern to love. Glad the Council trimmed the trees so you will have a bit more sunlight. Do you fertilize or add plant food later? Catherine your border looks lovely. Now sit back with your tea and enjoy the beauty. Have a Blessed week.

I love your channel, and I especially love your accent (so cute). Hello from South Western Ohio, USA - in late September, we have a couple months of nice weather yet before the snow flies, so I'm still planting (spring bulbs and perennials). Have yet to plant my oak leaf hydrangea, two which hazel (one yellow and one orange), and a large-ish juniper tree), but I'll get there.

the new border looks lovely :) i definitely would like some hellebores, i've re designed my borders and they are now wider. Also made a 2m x 1m L shaped raised bed to go around my patio so looking forward to filling that ☺🥀x

We are full in spring in SA and i did gave my whole garden a makeover and deep cleanse about a month ago. Now everything is starting to flower as we got our first summer rainfall. Your garden looks super happy. Nice new plants❤❤

I was hoping for at least one more week of sun, I have so many tomatoes still on the vines. Getting ready to bring the ficuses, cacti and jade plants indoors. Spend afternoon tidying up my balcony, and the squirrels made a mess again in couple hours. They are in a full digging mode stashing peanuts in my pots 😊 I can't wait come spring your little semi shady corner would be spectacular 🫶

I feel it' s great that the trees are trimmed now. More light will be great next season. You've chosen beautiful plants, I like the one for the corner. And the one with the lovely foliage. ❤ The fern will be great next year, that's for sure. I mainly have fern and hostias in the shady section of my garden. They grow well there, I'm happy about it.
