I make jig guides to prevent my arthur joints from boogering my work. I mounted an angle grinder with a table grinder disc up. It helps me to safely shape blades.

My newest opi 1:51 nol has a little bit of resistance. I put beezwax/ vegioil lube in joints. It is thick and controllable. A heater gets it to flow well. I like your booboo honesty bro! Fun projects!

Great project! Just be careful with grinding the blades. Dont let them get too hot, it'll mess with the hardness. Better go in short bursts and use lots of water to cool the steel

Very nice George you made that knife your own and it wouldn't matter if it was a dinner knife because you did it yourself and you know how it works I have a few knives like you but to me a knife is like a snooker cue and I can put will over 100 + brakes in with a yard brush because I made the yard brush my own cause we all like to be different and if we can make it work we will make it work so you keep it up mate and keep going thumbs up magical content I enjoy it all the time we just like to let people know what works for us and if it works for them they've saved a few dollar 👍👍

Very nice. A big challenge, but well worth the work. It's my understanding most tool handles are either ash or hickory. Most small hand tools e.g. hammers are usually hickory and most large tools e.g. shovels are typically ash. Also, I believe JB Weld makes a clear epoxy now. Might take a closer look to see if you can find it. Peace.

Hi George, Question from a leather newbie. What do you think is the minimum leather thickness for an opinel sheath? Thanks.
@2ndchancegeorge
@2ndchancegeorge 5 ай бұрын
I am jo expert and tried different thicknesses. One thing I noticed is not to get already dyed leather that is thin. It just to "floppy". It's strong but just to soft. I will get some links from Amazon of the leather I like for the opinels.it is un dyed so you will need to get dye. There are many choices. Bear with me here and I'll comment with the links for you. Thanks for the support. Be safe

Flawless 12''X24'' 5-6oz Vegetable Tanned Leather Precut Amazon, this I think is the best for Opinel go.magik.ly/ml/20twm/ Top rank, This is the thinner pre dyed leather. will work but not the best Amazon go.magik.ly/ml/20two/ This is heavy leather, solid for bigger fixed blade Amazon. Hope this helps. Looking for dye check out Fiebing's Leather Dye

You should get you a "Carbide burr" set for about 20 bucks. Will cut so much faster than the aluminum oxide based bits and with much much lower heat transfer. They literally cut 10x faster then a alumina grinding wheel does so it would massively cut down on the shaping time and then last quite well if you aren't cutting super hard high alloy steels.
@2ndchancegeorge
@2ndchancegeorge 5 ай бұрын
Gotta look into that. Thankyou my dear

Careful with heat build up George, the tip was taken past its temper (see the coloring?) Gots to keep that steel cool when grinding.
