Hi Abby, Try scrubbing the yellow stain with this solution: Dissolve 2 tablespoons of table salt and 1 tablespoon of baking soda in 1 cup hot water; when it cools mix this with 1 cup of regular dish detergent. Scrub with damp sponge. Rinse the stained area, and repeat. Also, try Vim, if it's available in France. Cheers from Vancouver, BC, Canada.

I would have put the marble outside with a hot bucket of sudsy water and a hose to clean it first and then do your baking soda process. Embrace the age of it with its marks and flaws. Wow Abby! Such a fabulous video this week. Thank you for taking us all on a virtual field trip with you! The water lily & lotus farm was so tranquil and beautiful, and I love the music you chose for that part! Is that on your Spotify playlist (if so, I need to listen to it again!) if not, can you add it? 🎶 the home where you made your water lily print is fabulous, and I’m sure inspirational for you too. And the sunflower field🌻🌻🌻! Your bedroom floor looks spectacular, and I’m sure it feels so good on bare feet too. Also loved seeing a little behind the scenes so to speak of the Tour de France, all that I see here in the USA is more of the official racing part, so that was fun! Have a good week, I look forward to Sundays to watch your videos, thanks for all the time and effort you put into them ❤

Baking soda needs to sit for 24 to 48 hours before wiping off. Do not scrub with the baking soda. It can etch the surface. Maybe try hydrogen peroxide on the stains? Wash with a pH neutral dish soap or Castille soap and water. Rust is a tough stain to remove. If you can not live with the rust stains, it might require a professional. How is Wanda?

The marble being as old as it is likely will be very difficult to restore unless you use a professional machine the baking soda along with dish soap or hydrogen peroxide are the best home solutions i think it’s still a beautiful piece and would still use it! The water Lillie’s and Lotus were gorgeous how amazing to know Monet captured this beauty right there! Wow the amazing art created just gorgeous! The hydrangeas were just so stunning!! When I've watched programs about restoring marble, etc., I've seen them use some sort of mastic or similar filler to fix cracks, chips, and the like, and make it look like new. I think I've seen it on "Affaire Conclue: La vie des objets" (France 2). I might have seen it on "The Repair Shoppe" out of the UK, or possibly both. Anyway, they make it look brand new. I did read never to use bleach on marble as it will etch it. But, apparently you can use ammonia, hydrogen peroxide, and certain other cleaners. Loved the visits to Marliac, and that writer's retreat, and everything. Very enjoyable video (again!).

I don’t let the baking soda dry! I wet the surface put the soda on, let it set for 20 min and rewet it a little bit, w a soft brush i brushed the counter (the bsoda will penetrate better!) and make a wet paste, i insiste on the yellow part but never let it dry. Keep brushing and let it set again for a few min then repeat. Works great on porcelain sink too.

Hi Abby, I think if you can get in them in France or get them from the States, the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers would help to take the stains out of your marble. simple solution - it is a small marble vanity top...call tile seller who will have name of marble polisher This is how you easily get rid of nics and scratches....then they seal the marble and it stays lovely. not complicated or expensive to have done
@acadacad13 ай бұрын
Sanding marble means repolishing as well. That can be expensive. Wire brushing scratches the polished surface; good in covered areas or areas you would like to glue together. Marble, even in an art museum isn't expected to be perfect and unstained.

When cleaning old things I always wear a face mask. I know its a pain, but dust can hold lots of nasties, particularly if its been there a long long time. (Its the nurse OCD in me, can't be helped). It is always satisfying cleaning up old dirty things and watching them shine up!! Things are coming along nicely Abbey. Well done. It is my understanding that baking soda helps with the 'scrubing' effect of stain removal. You need something with an acidic effect maybe to remove those yellowing stains, like vinegar or citric acid or something like that.
