Buck, I hope you see this. There is a detransitioner I was online friends with called Yarden Silveira (trans name Emily Silveira) who suffered immensely due to vaginoplasty and no one would help him no doctors. He threatened to do himself many times and used to post on Facebook and message me that he was going to commit beep because he couldn’t live with his destroyed body. I tried to help him and along with others, talk him out of it. He then wrote a post on Facebook about saying this is it, he is done,. and he completely disappeared. I found out later he passed away and has an obituary online, I wondered where he went as was so scared after his online words about sewer beep and he just disappeared. I find out he did in fact pass. He wrote in his last message just before about how the surgeons are responsible for his death. Like the recent trans man story, we don’t know if he did in fact take his life, but if you out the pieces together, it sadly seems this way. Please can you talk about him, and give him a voice? I would at least like him to be able to help others, so his passing isn’t in vain.

In my mind, you should have to wait till a minimum of 21 YO to be able to do this, ideally 25, when brain is done developing. Many countries have reassigned adult age to 21 because 18 is still so immature in physiological and behavioral aspects. But 14?! If *YOU* were legally an adult, that is totally different. *The point of this video is that this young person was put on the medical conveyor belt from 14* ... that's 8th grade age, btw. That's obscene. I'm all for 21+ doing whatever they want, with medical and psychiatric clearance. Live your life. But don't butcher young people who literally do not have the ability to see many long term consequences! *There have been kids EVEN YOUNGER put on hormones and getting double mastectomies...as young as 12-13. Even pubertal blockers have HUGE risks, developmentally, both in the brain and physiologically* ...And anatomically. It's so wrong. There really needs to be a minimal age limit of 21 imo. I think really it should be 25, but likely there'd be push back on that. *It is just fact that the younger you are, the less able you are to be able to see long-term ramifications, same with old age. Children and the elderly have difficulty healing and are more prone to infections and complications than adults for a multitude of reasons. With kids and very young "adults", it's a concern due to physical & brain development, physiological & hormonal development and health, & the ability or INability to understand the permanency of this & the long-term potential consequences. I'm not saying no one should get it. Just no one under the age of 21, for developmental reasons.* I'm glad it worked out for you but people like Shape Shifter and many others like Jazz Jennings were botched and can't even orgasm...ever. How sad is that? Also... *No pubertal blockers because puberty is CRUCIAL for creating the neovagina* .. @bicelebi I will be perfectly honest with you, I will be sad if my friend's son has top surgery too. I don't have dysphoria though, so see it differently than him,who I would say most certainly does and has been binding for about five years. We're in the UK. I don't know if our health service would cover bottom surgery. I would guess you'd have to wait a long time. He won't be able to afford to pay privately and I would question whether any company would agree to cover bottom surgery on insurance given it would be quite blatant why a bio female, presenting outwardly as male and on cross sex hormones wants insurance. I know he currently doesn't have private health insurance. I haven't even started delving into options to fund surgery, probably in the hope he'll be content to not have it. Thank you for sharing your situation. I'm not forcing any opinions on him, but the more I know, the better equipped I'll be if he ever asks.

This is insane & so very extremely sad... Griffin is from my home city in MA. My step sister was his friend. I met him myself, in my middle school class as the most quiet sweetest kid. I met him as Makayla;before his transition. I won't lie and say i was close to him... with that being said, in our class, it seemed as though he preferred not to engage much socially. Never saw anyone pick on him, but not too many talked to him either. Oh so quiet every single day & would not utter barely a sentence through the whole school day. Despite this was a stellar student and always so polite to teachers and other students, never disruptive ever... Everytime i looked at him i saw a certain sadness, so occasionally tried to talk to him(her at the time) back then & throw a few jokes & try to get her to laugh... it was always a chuckle back. A very quiet one but then the head would go right back down into school work. Such a quiet & kind & (at this point seemed like) a very misunderstood youth. I truly believe he was trying to find himself & the reason this sickens me & saddens me is because i truly believe he thought that was the way due to it existing in this nature and others allowing it to happen like this when he was still a minor. Griffin was indoctrinated into this. We ended up at different highschools yet, i still had him on instagram i believe. This is when i began to see transition posts. He ABSOLUTELY was given testosterone & started this as a minor because we were freshman in highschool i believe when he began posting leading up to it, & still in highschool while he was documenting his testosterone progress. Even back then, as a full supporter, and with me being gay myself, & at the time extremely left leaning, I believed still in my heart that he was just trying to find himself & that the people like doctors that should have been helping him with these things, were aiding in the destruction of his physical health instead. I wholeheartedly thought it was wrong, but i was not close to him like i said, nor did i believe it was my place to comment on it. I have literally witnessed this poor kid from a far become social & come out of his shell, which he didn't need to begin with physically transitioning as a child (like he was quite obviously led to believe), he needed true support from these doctors & to be told he is great & surrounded by people that love him & he should love himself without harming himself to do so. Who knows... maybe im wrong but i felt the need to share this because i was so shook & felt a little sick when i saw his face pop up in this video with the caption it had.... i immediately wanted to cry. I didnt have to be close to see how sweet he was & also how lost he was in this world and its always sad to see a familiar face in this context... They wronged him. I'll probably get hate from one person or another for this comment, but these are just my opinions, feelings & observations & its just so sad...

@olgadeweger38052 ай бұрын
I think she/he should have had quite some counseling before any life-changing decision is made, and I believe there should be a quality standard these surgeons need to meet for them to be allowed to do a surgery like that. there should be correct information follow ups and consequences for surgeons that leave damage. Sure there are risks, but this is ridiculous man. I think we are having a generation that is very much focused on how do I look, in a way it is a luxury problem, what I mean is, in any country where peoples main worry to get food on the table nobody would think to have a sex-change operation, it would be just not available and so nobody would think about it. You get incarnated in a body, it has to function so you can survive or maybe even thrive a lifetime, you mutilate or abuse it it will cut down the years, but eventually we leave our bodies behind. Your body is not you, so why care what it looks like, care how it functions so it will last.

There was a woman on KZbin who once shared a video of trans women talking about the complications they experienced after getting bottom surgeries, but these same trans women would refused to discourage others trans women from getting the surgery done because - despite all the pain they were going through and the ridiculous amount of money they were spending in the attempt to fix the ever present issues - they felt the aesthetics were more important, thus worth all the pain/money. It's rather disturbing that people can hear the horror stores these trans women go through (and likewise, trans males - who not only end up with similar complication; but left with some hideous scars, to boot!); and still support/encourage these surgeries to take place.

I am a retired ICU RN In 1996 I was taking care of a patient who’d undergone M to F surgery. The genital region on both male and females is very vascular. This patient had terrible bleeding and swelling requiring multiple units of blood and blood products. Trying to control the bleeding was difficult. They slept all night seemingly unaware of all the treatments they required. First thing they did upon awakening was to check out their new breasts. I’d be freaking out wondering WTF I was in the ICU for Edit; with all the problems with TG surgery problems arising I wonder what ever happened to this patient

All those health complications holy shit. Similar happened to my 78 year old grandpa. Lung cancer, got treatment for lung cancer, then did surgery for the heart, died on the surgery table due to stroke but was brought back, woke up from surgery half blind due to the stroke. Could not drive anymore just after he had bought a brand new car, then he could barely walk and fell over, had to re-learn how to walk with help. All of that happened over a 2-3 year span, before that he was relatively healthy for his age. But this should never happen to a healthy 22 year old wtf!!!!!! If my grandpa was feeling depressed over losing his health, imagine a 22 year old who has barely even started his life already dealing with such bullshit... Rest in piece.

I was severely gender dysphoric through most of my childhood and young adulthood. Gender dysphoria doesn't cause self-hatred...it's a symptom of self-hatred. If you truly loved and accepted yourself, you would accept the body you were born into. You only THINK your body would stop disgusting you if you were a different gender...but only because you haven't realistically explored the idea that people wouldn't magically treat you better and that you hate a lot more about yourself than just what's in your pants. Remember that shpeal about the 'gender spectrum'? Yeah, it's okay to be a masculine woman. You don't have to literally become a man just because you don't feel feminine. It's okay to just not be feminine. Loving yourself means NOT needing to change.

I’m in anesthetist. When I was a student, I saw some of the gender surgeries done and most of them do not look like human genitals. There was even a young FTM redhead who died in ICU after his phallo. Any elective surgery has major risks not only with anesthesia, but intraoperative and postop complications. Obviously some surgeries are more risky than others, but I will say plastic surgeons do not give a crap about their patients! they are constantly treating mentally ill people with the body dysmorphia. They see trans people as mentally ill people who can make money for them.

Thank you, Buck, for this VERY important post. I am crying as I write this. Such a tragedy! I am a retired gynecologist who cared for many trans-men before it was socially accepted (1990s-2000s). My work was mostly supporting patients along their journeys, managing adverse effects of testosterone, & guiding them to a point when they could get a hysterectomy-oophorectomy for medical indications (this was before hysterectomies were done like nose jobs). Phalloplasties are very difficult surgeries with a high complication rate, and the result often does not live up to the patient's dreams -- yes, techniques have improved over the years but the phallus is not going to be cosmetically or functionally normal. Still, for some people, bringing their physical manifestation into alignment with their sense of self is worth the pain. One note: this patient had lupus, which may have been the underlying cause of all these severe and ultimately lethal complications. Lupus is an autoimmune disorder that makes any procedure more dangerous, let alone such a complex & traumatizing surgery as phalloplasty.

Surgery is always a risk. It's always a percentage that you gamble on. It is largely visual. It is. I'd rather have a healthy PARTNER. I know people who have had complications, and infections...have voiced uncertainty if that had been the right choice. Not coming out as trans, I mean..actually having operations. Thank you Buck, I KNOW you understand. It is NOT always worth it and should be seriously considered. They can't actually MAKE a working penis. When you GET one, you feel that it should WORK like a penis. They can't do that yet. Please consider if you NEED a specific organ to feel like a whole person. You may be focused on the wrong thing. A lot of INSIDE WORK needs to be done; and can't be skipped ahead of. PUT THE KNIFE DOWN. I don't think some people understand....you can't just sew a penis on a woman. Being trans is so much more than that.(I'm preaching to the choir, Buck...I've been a fan of yours for a long...long time.) It's the OTHER people I know struggling with these issues.

When I was a14 year old I had to have reconstructive surgery on my hip due to a birth defect and all the trauma to the nerves and muscles in that area while they were still growing caused severe pelvic floor pain later on in my life so just thinking of what m to f surgeries does just makes my own symptoms (that luckily physical therapy has helped a lot with) flair up. I currently have a friend who is going through his workup. I explained that some insurance companies don't cover these things because they are considered "elective" unless stated by a whole psych team. I was just curious. My friend is showing concerns, and I am aware that doctors, too, lie about procedure(s) and recovery. My only elective surgery was to give my father 60% of my liver. That cost me my Marine Corps career, but I'd do it again to have him alive today. Consider the trauma and the experience post surgery or treatment. Consider everything because buyers' remorse can hit anyone. I feel for those who aren't able to afford and pay. They usually won't get the best treatments either. It is a very worrying scenario.

Meaning that he was addicted to narcotics. I am an addict in recovery. Coming up on 31 months clean and sober so no judgement here. But if he relapses in FEBRUARY ON HEROIN why in earth would they do an ELECTIVE surgical procedure in MARCH?!?! There is no way. He struggled with substance use and they proceeded to operate the hell outta him. You really need significant clean to be able to handle narcotics from surgery ( yes they absolutely have a right to be without pain ) but I have serious concerns about this doctors ethics based on that, as well as everything else. I'm a trans man..28, still didn't start HRT yet because well...if I fuck up my one and only chance to get green lit then I may never get the therapy I need.. but my point would be is... *never ever ever* under any circumstance start as early as this guy did. This system.. the system this poor guy went through *failed him.* Everyone in his life failed him! There is absolutely *no reason* for an underaged or even freshly of aged guy to be doing this to their body! *The complication rate is soooo damn high!* Your body doesn't stop developing until you are 24-26...and that should be taken into account. What I wish for any trans person, including anyone reading this.. *patience is a virtue.* Start HRT at earliest 18, then let it do its work then wait until you are like 21-23 to get the top surgery..it will have far less risks when you are a grown adult- the older and longer you are in T or E the better! Your HRT will progressively make you more of the gender you identify with and get far better results. I know its though for trans youth.. been there, experienced that, *fuck that shit...* but what I usher you to do if you are a minor with gender dysphoria.. is to build a support network of people who have you back, go to therapy if you can afford it and *be patient.* You will save yourself and you may achieve even better results.
