Great review! 👍 Just wanted to ask how you think the spire compares to the v5 Santa Cruz nomad? Currently own the nomad but seen a really good deal on a spire that I’m thinking about (Although it is a bit lesser spec) Thanks
@NICADV6 ай бұрын
Compared to the V5 Nomad the Spire is a bit more stable. Speed, steeps, and jumps it will likely help with confidence. That said the Nomad has better braking characteristics and it tracks the ground better. The big wheels and geometry of the Spire go a long way to add confidence, but it does numb the over all ride. The Spire is also significantly less maneuverable on the trail or in the air. So it depends on what you're looking for, Spire for confidence and Nomad if you already have the confidence and want to add more style and maybe some tricks.
@NICADV6 ай бұрын
@@Bigbobbydazzler123 I would definitely go Spire over Sentinel. I'm only 5' 11" 170 lbs and flex in the Sentinel was noticeable. The Spire is also a really big XL 505/510 reach vs 501. Nomad V6 XL is 492/495. Jenson had some good deals on Nomads, but it looks like all they have left is frames, which could be good since you mentioned you had some pretty nice parts. alnk.to/gp0NUKu Full price Nomads they are offering bonus cards depending on price.

Hey Nic. Love the video. What made you want to switch to the sentinel from the megatower? Is this the bike that you’ll do your every day riding with along with taking it to the bike park? I live in Colorado and I’m looking for the bike that I can ride trails with along with taking it to the bike park pretty often. Looking at the sentinel, megatower, and Hightower (run with a 160 fork)
@NICADV4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Caleb! The switch was based on the desire to try a new bike and to find out what the hype was all about. I ride the Sentinel everywhere and it is certainly capable of bike park terrain. I have a bit of time on the Hightower and I owned a Megatower for over a year. My recommendation really would have to depend on your size and preferred riding terrain. The Sentinel and Hightower are friendlier to climb and can handle the majority of descents. For all day high alpine rides like Wheeler Pass and Searle Pass those bikes will leave you some energy at the top and are plenty capable of the loose rocks and steeps that follow. The stiffness of the Hightower and Megatower were also standouts so if you are closer to the 200 pound mark I would also steer you toward those bikes. If you prioritize the downhill and are spending a decent amount of time at the bike park then the Megatower maybe the right choice especially equipped with a 38. I hope that helps.
@NICADV4 жыл бұрын
@@leeherge6885 after riding both for a fair bit I would definitely have to give it to the mega. I only have a couple rides on the Hightower. I cannot say definitively which bike “feels” stiffer between the Hightower and Sentinel. New bikes are so good these days it takes a number of rides to reveal a bikes weaknesses.

@NICADV4 жыл бұрын
I am 180cm and the large feels perfect. I think the XL is a great choice. This is a bike that will treat you well on both the single trails and DH tracks.

Awesome review! How did you enjoy this compared to the evil wreckoning? Any specific things one does better than the other? Both seem like incredibly solid bikes. I'm looking forward to moving out to Issaquah in a few weeks here to enjoy some PNW trails. Would definitely love to get a ride in.
@NICADV3 жыл бұрын
The Evil is a bit more composed on larger hits and stable even in the rockiest sections of trail. The Transition is lighter and gives the feeling of a super stable trail bike but doesn't reach the level of the Evil when things get gnarly. The Transition is probably better all around but I prefer the Evil for its abilities when nearing my limits. Hit me up on Instagram when you get to the area I am always looking for people to ride with.

Nice trails you got there ✌😃 great review also, would you go for the Large with a 5' 10.3" height and a wingspan 1" longer than height?
@NICADV4 жыл бұрын
You are definitely in the over lap of the medium and large. Based on your measurements the large is likely the best choice and the OneUp seatpost can be shimmed down if needed. Do you know your seat height? Specifically the measurement from the center of your bottom bracket to top of your saddle.
@aleszverca4 жыл бұрын
@@NICADV Hey yes I have all the measurements...I am currently on a Yt Jeffsy Cf Pro Large V.1...I like to climb alooot, standing up also, there is where I feel a bit cramped. it's a bike with 445 reach, the Medium Sentinel is almost the same reach and stack,except the quite slacker head tube angle, steeper seat tube angle and with that off course comes the about 2" longer wheelbase, but the large is even larger so I'm really struggling with the decision...bb to saddle height is 73cm, but as I am planning a frame up build that isn't really an issue...thanks for your input...will need to find a similar bike and test it first as there are no Transition bike shops here in Slovenia...
@NICADV4 жыл бұрын
@@aleszverca I can tell you that with the stock 210mm dropper seat post the large will fit great at 73cm. Even with the long wheelbase the Sentinel is surprisingly nimble.

People don't seem to keep their Sentinels for too long
@NICADV Жыл бұрын
Like I mentioned in the review, the Sentinel rode more like the 140 bikes I had recently ridden. I was hoping for a bike more like the Megatower I had just sold rather than a slacker Hightower. I have followed up with the Spire and I am quite happy with that bike. If you are looking for a bit burlier bike, I have owned my Spire since September and been impressed. The Evil Wreckoning is also a great option.
