My spur is hands down the best bike I've ever owned. Bought the entry level model when they were super discounted to make way for the UDH models and slowly upgrading it with I9 wheels, AXS drivetrain and other nice bits. It's the only bike I've ever had where I feel it was completely dialed and 100% fits my capabilities and riding style. You can do so much with it. Transition hit a home run with it.

one test I did with my axs setup. I charged batteries to 100%. then rode til it wouldn't shift anymore. then noted the milage. gives an 'idea' of what your range is. I also took notice when the led turn red. (bring a spare battery).

Beautiful build! I have always wanted to try the Spur frame. Your choice of tires “speaks volumes” on the type of trails you’re riding. I’m sure they climb great and are perfect for endurance racing but personally I would want the regular Rekon 29x2.6 rear and the Teravail Honcho 29.6 front. I would also have gone with Stan Baron CB7 rims. I really love mine, the only carbon rims I know that have a true bead hook lock design so tire seal and hold on the rims secured. Some tire manufacturers are also stating “don’t use on hookless rims” As for tires the only XC tires I use are the Rekon 29x2.6 or Teravail Ehline 2.5.

Great build. I just finally picked up a very lightly used '23 Spur with a very similar build (except analog GX and Enve bar/stem, but with XO1 170 cranks and same I9 wheels). Coming from very similar Izzo, but this bike seems much quicker up with very little or nothing lost down. Considering going full 1 bike quiver--- century race next month (Lutsen 99er) and then some weekend enduro to follow with riser bar and heavier tires really the only changes. Thoughts on how nuts that is?

Great bike/build. Was looking at the geo of the Spur and it's very similar to my '21 Optic I ride, slightly shorter wheelbase and 66 vs 65 HA. I love my Optic but feel it's less XC than mini-enduro which get's overwhelmed on really rough stuff. Great build and love the Ohlin stuff.

@ Clint again - I understand that with SRAM’s new T-Type AXS Transmission, "Shifting under load is made possible”. Is it correct to assume then that shifting under load is NOT recommended with my current 2021 AXS Eagle XX1 groupset??
@ClintGibbs
@ClintGibbs 7 ай бұрын
I always let up on the pedals when I shift. It’s just ingrained in me. I don’t know the specific data on the regular AXS Eagle. I think it’s a good idea to let up slightly when shifting

Fun video. Have you tried 165 cranks on the Spur? I have last years Spur and love it. But now want the Transmission. Probably going to sell it for the new one. Also your cables look way long? Lastly, I know lots of folks love those noisy freehubs. And it does sound like quality but it’s not for me. I want no noises. 🚴

I’m really not too particular but for plastic ones the specialized Zee cages are nice. If you want to go carbon, there’s a lot to choose from and I don’t really have any favorites. Go with a reputable brand like specialized or elite.

Hey Clint, is there a way I can ask you more stupid questions about my Garman edge 1030+? Don’t want to be annoying, but I’m stuck on a few things. For example, what happens when I interrupt coach Garmin and just do my own thing or do it out of order because I’m leaving town and I can’t follow the particular weeks Programming? Also if I sign up for coach Garmin to guide me to a race in six months, what is the difference if I plug-in miles versus timed during the questioning part? Does it change my efforts or if you did a side-by-side comparison of miles versus timed, would it be two different workouts? My apologies if you’d rather not answer the stuff here!
@ClintGibbs
@ClintGibbs 3 ай бұрын
I actually have not really used Garmin coach yet. Since I’ve taken a break from hard-core racing I have just done some gravel intervals and mountain bike time trials. But it is something that I would like to try this fall just so I can experience it and learn about it. Sorry I don’t have more information For you but hopefully I will one day!

@@ClintGibbs thank you so much for your time! Truth Be Told, I am not a racer, but I signed up for one to get me off the couch and I’m using “Coach Garmin” thinking it’s smarter than me lol. Anyway, 70 mile cross-country race in April and so far Coach Garmin has me on a plan that’s broken into three sections over the course of the next five months or so. It has me riding 3 to 4 times a week switching between zone two for an hour or an hour and a half at times and then intervals in zone three and then zone four at times. If you find the time to investigate it and find that it’s worthwhile to post it I’ll be looking forward to that! Thanks again for your time and humble attitude!

A 120/120mm travel XC/Downcountry bike could be the most versatile bike made. With a Gravel wheelset, an XC Wheelset, and a Trail wheelset, it could be the one bike that does it all.
@nicks8026
@nicks8026 8 ай бұрын
Depends on where you live. Where I ride, it’s all steeps with very little in the way of XC style riding. Lots of square edged rocks and crazy exposure. Trails are mostly decomposed granite with no loam to speak of, so a heavy wheel set is often a better choice. Rekons, like Clint has on this bike, are way too light duty for this kind of riding. In many cases, you’d be best served by an enduro sled. That being said, I went one level up from the Spur and ride a Smuggler. I like that I have the option to increase travel from 130/140 to 140/150 if I want. Haven’t done it yet, though.
