Great bike videos... you got a new sub. Went to my LBS for an accessory yesterday and noticed the tech behind the counter finishing up a Spur X01 build. I commented thats one lucky Spur owner with all the glowing reviews(like Straight Line). The tech said, “no owner yet, do you want to feel lucky”.... me, “here is my credit card”. First ride impression.... just wow ! I had preorders for a Ridley V4 and Epic Evo Comp but obviously canceled both now, lol. The Spur’s light weight and geo are its strong points, plus those front and rear SIDS... nicely done Transition.

My GX build finally showed up in November. Completely agree with your review. I switched over my Magrua Trail SL brake kit to this bike. I'm on a large and put 170mm XX1 cranks on the bike and still am finding a lot of pedal strikes. Compared to my Niner Jet 9 which sits quite high, I like the longer wheelbase and "in the bike" feel. I put 35mm rise One up bars and a 40mm stem on the bike. Overall this bike is done and dialed. Like it better than anything else I've ever ridden. For these wetter winter months I left the Dissector on the front and switched out the Rekon in the rear for the new Forecaster...its a great combo.

Such a great bike. The Spur feels so confident for a 120mm bike it's crazy. Enjoy it

Great review! Just got a Spur in mid March, great on east coast rocky climbs & descents despite 120mm travel. An all-around fun bike for flow and even XC rides.

Nice mate, enjoyable review. Yeah, Transitions are really making some very good bikes these days for sure! That Spur is very nice. The Scout is the one that is def on my short list. Glad you through that Dissector on the back. I love that tire!! That on the rear and a DHF up front is my year round setup here in the PNW. Hope you're enjoying that hard tail! Looking forward to hearing about that one. Cheers.

Great little review - any clues as to why they didn't go internal cable routing on the other side of the Spur? seems a bit odd tbh.
@StraightLine_MTB
@StraightLine_MTB 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Peter. I believe they went with external routing for rear brake for ease of service....which was great when I swapped out the G2 brake. Ideally the shifter and dropper housing can stay while you can change out the cables without having to fish the housing through the frame. The brake hose however has to be fully removed in order to swap brake. I had same routing on our Sentinel and honestly I don't mind it but do understand it takes away from a cleaner look. Thanks for watching.

Cool vid mate, cheers. Might be time to blow your mind again and try the Privateer, i've built a 161 with a Zeb 170mm, extremely surprised how well it climbs, 80deg STA probably helps, and descends like a DH machine. 👍

The Spur is an awesome bike and would be great for big long days in the mountains. While it's 120mm and in the sporty side, it can handle quite a lot. The wait will be worth it.. Trails in this video are in Auburn Ca, great trails out here. Thanks for watching!

I have the new 2021 Yt Izzo Blaze loving it. I wonder how it would compare to the spur. Bro I'll even let you borrow it since I took a fall and fractured three ribs. I'll be out for at least one month.

Sorry to hear you're injured. That's rough. The increase in front travel would give some aggressiveness to the Izzo. I'd be interested to try one. Either way the Izzo is an amazing bike and still a great choice and dead sexy

Wow, such a great video Jacob! Love your presentation and style. You really hit this one out of the park! I still have my AF, and still waiting to see if my Spur will ever arrive. Not sure I will end up with the Spur due to price increase. Do you feel the Ripley AF is a better descender than the Spur? I mean it has 2.6 tires and more travel up front.
@StraightLine_MTB
@StraightLine_MTB 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I really appreciate that. The Ripley AF has the edge as far as smoothing out the trail. The Spur feels a bit more sporty but I prefer the geo of the Spur as it just feels right. The Ripley AF is faster on the downs and I smashed one of my records on Culvert Trail (smooth fast DH) on it. When the trail is a mix of down with small ups then the Spur pulls away quickly. I think getting lighter and faster rolling tires on the AF would help. Both great.
@NDemanuele1
@NDemanuele1 3 жыл бұрын
Awesome video! I did watch the big review of all the bikes, but am wondering how the Ripley compares in the Descending department to the Spur? Hard to believe you prefer the Spur for climbing to the Ripley! Many state that the Ripley is the best climber in the industry - the Standard! I rode a V1 Ripley for years and just recently switched to a V1 Ripmo. Even when I had my V1 Ripley and demo'd newer bikes, none would come close to its climbing ability - and that's a V1!!...LOL. The newer Ripleys are even more polished!! I rode my Ripley for about 5 years before selling and switching to a Ripmo. I didn't have a reason to switch, until I realized better stability would be nice. Now with the Ripmo I get the best of both worlds in my opinion!
@StraightLine_MTB
@StraightLine_MTB 3 жыл бұрын
I'm sure carbon Ripley is great but the AF version didn't climb as well as the Spur. Could close the gap with lighter tires and narrower wheels. Plus the Spur is about 5lbs lighter. For an all out descent the Ripley AF has the edge but the geo on the Spur is something very special. Both are excellent bikes and Ripley AF quite a bit cheaper. If I was stuck with Ripley AF I wouldn't be sad.
@NDemanuele1
@NDemanuele1 3 жыл бұрын
@@StraightLine_MTB Awesome! That's right, it's the AF. You should compare the Spur to the V4 Ripley ( latest Carbon Ripley).

Any thoughts on the 2021 Niner Jet 9 RDO? Trying to decide between the Ripley AF, Spur, and Niner Jet 9. Thanks!
@StraightLine_MTB
@StraightLine_MTB 3 жыл бұрын
I have never ridden a Niner but just read a review of the Jet 9 and it sounds amazing. Between the Ripley AF and Spur I like the Spur a bit better. Climbs faster and is lighter....but also more $$. Ripley AF with carbon 30 internal width wheels would be pretty awesome also.
@cdoss002
@cdoss002 3 жыл бұрын
@@StraightLine_MTB Thanks for the insight. Any suggestions on which Carbon rims for the Ripley AF? Do you think it's enough of a weight saver and performance difference to spend that money?
@StraightLine_MTB
@StraightLine_MTB 3 жыл бұрын
@@cdoss002 I have only ridden carbon wheels once but looking to get a set soon. They are lighter and have less rotational mass so pedaling is snappier. They track better in corners and tech. It could be an upgrade down the road as the stock Ibis wheels are great. If looking at carbon wheels I'd go with a brand with a great warranty i.e. Ibis, We Are One, Nobl has decent warranty as well.

Did you added a volume spacer to the shock?
@StraightLine_MTB

I didn't. I never checked if there was one in from factory. Took bigger hits really well.
@pjsanab
@pjsanab 3 жыл бұрын
@@StraightLine_MTB mine also shines on everything except really steep technical climbs with large rocks, which I tend to avoid. I suspect that maybe with a larger volume spacer the travel will sit higher and can perhaps go over these easier. Other than that this Spur can hang with the bigger travel bikes on the downhills.
@StraightLine_MTB
@StraightLine_MTB 3 жыл бұрын
@@pjsanab it has a more sporty feel so it won't be as good a technical climber. Running a volume spacer would allow you to run a bit lower pressure and give more bottom out resistance

Love the spur, but it changed to the better for me with Pike at 130. On long high speed descents, pike was may more plush and confident compared to SID. Just my view
@StraightLine_MTB
@StraightLine_MTB 3 жыл бұрын
I'd be interested in trying the Spur with a 130mm fork. Seems like it would open it up a bit on the downs. I may try the Fox 34 at 130mm to see what it feels like. Thanks for watching.

How tall are you? I’m really between sizes on this bike. So do you think it could pull all around single trail bike duty?
@StraightLine_MTB
@StraightLine_MTB 3 жыл бұрын
I'm just under 6' and fir is great. For trail bike duties I'd say yes. Even for my local trails I'm hitting everything I do on bigger bikes. Of course it's only 120mm and a bit sporty but it handles a lot. It's geometry really allows you to ride more aggressive than you'd guess. Huge payoff when climbing is a great bonus.

Transition sold out this bike in a day once it dropped and has been out since. I think Transition doesn't put out the volume bigger brands can and the huge surge worsened it. It really is a great bike. Hope you are able to get one soon.
