I'm thinking probably in one more year. I'm thinking that it will be the faster that my hair grows, the more that I can cut off at a faster rate... Hopefully this time next year! ❤️

I'm at my 16th month of transitioning, too! I'm waiting until 18mos to do my big chop. I wanted to do it at the 2yr. mark(type A goals), but I'm just ready to get rid of these stringy ends soon and start some wash and go's! Beautiful hair, and good luck on your eventual big chop!

Here during quarantine and decided to not relax my hair anymore since I have some free time, but I don't want to stop using heat on my hair. I'm so glad I found this video because alot of naturals frown on using any heat and I just don't want to give it up right away. Thanks for showing how it can be done and hair can still be healthy! Would love to see an update video of your routine. Thanks!

Oh my Gosh! Your hair is so beautiful. I am so happy that I found your channel. I decided to go back natural from relaxing my hair for a decade. I am at 2 months post relaxer & looking for channels that would help with my transition. I would like to be a heat train natural in the end without the big chop. All the channels I click on are so against heat thru your transition. I see it is possible & I will keep moving forward. Thank you!

I was looking for someone who transitions with heat, because I want to transition but with heat. Everyone always says oh don't use heat but I'm not about some of these transition styles I like my hair straight .You've help me make my decision, I plan on straightening once every 2 weeks

Yay!! We are definitely rare! So many people don't think that it can be done or just aren't fans of using heated styling tools on natural hair. I wanna be able to rock my curls AND a flat iron... And when I wear a flat iron, I don't want to be affected by frizz... So heat training is definitely my goal! Congrats to you boo, let's do this together!! XOXO

DenayTheDiva yayyy, you're saying exactly who I feelI subbed today, I think twice a month is not a lot of heat at all. I've done hair long enough to know this. Your hair is beautiful & healthy btw its not breaking off like I've seen with others who're transitioning & don't even use heat. I'll catch up on your video for some tips

Straightening once a month is the best
@aloris_
@aloris_ 5 жыл бұрын
I think because constantly straightening it can cause hair fatigue and there's a risk for heat damage since some people's natural hair can't handle heat so I've been told. I guess it really just depends on what your hair can handle. Personally I straighten my hair every 2-3 months for change.

Your hair is nice. My last relaxer was years ago. I have not had a perm or relaxer since the summer of 2007. I have been natural now almost 10 years. I have written two books about my natural hair journey and other information is included in the books. The books are on Amazon. I also began posting about my natural hair journey on KZbin back in 2010.

Wow! I am there with you. Not on purpose. I'm just really particular and do not switch hairdressers once I find someone who works well with my style and hair. I use LYE (Affirm relaxer) and have for more than 15 years now. It was a male hairdresser who taught me about 20 years ago that *no lye* leaves calcium deposits on hair which is why it is often drier and more brittle. Once he switched me, I was done. Beautiful results. But it's September 10 today and the last time I got my hair permed was in November of last year. I'm just not in a hurry to go back to my hairdresser (who's an hour away) considering the health of my hair. I just hate the reversion from humidity in summer. Now that it's getting cooler again all is well. I'll likely perm it again right before the holidays. I used to relax every 8 to max 12 weeks. And it was healthy then, too, but it's just nice not to have to be bothered sitting in someone's chair all the time. Also, I rarely wrap my hair unless I roll it (which is a couple times a week at most, if at all) but all my pillowcases have been replaced with satin ones years ago so no split ends, zero breakage. Good job on this video and I saw your other one as well. My avatar was taken a couple weeks ago so that's where my hair is right now.
@DenayTheDiva
@DenayTheDiva 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Patricia! Our relaxed journeys were very similar. My favorite relaxer was Affirm and I used to relax every six weeks at the salon. When I moved to the East Coast, I continued to relax my hair by myself while still using Affifm. I then began to test my hair; eventually stretching my hair to relax only once every six months. Although I'm transitioning to natural, I still love relaxed hair; just as long as it's being taken care of. Thanks so much for watching! ❤️
@PatriciaNixon
@PatriciaNixon 8 жыл бұрын
Where on the East Coast? I'm a native NY'er, then was in NJ and now 3 years in NC. Hairdressers in general kill me but moreso here. You see my hair in my avatar. I like body, bounce, movement. They all wanna flatten it to death and I never leave with how I really wear my hair EVEN WHEN I WALK IN WITH HOW I WEAR IT. That's another reason I'm not in a rush to go back. A lotta money to have to leave not looking like ME. I don't mind paying well for my hair. Never have. But you better learn how *I* rock it, don't make me look like everyone else. [Sidebar: I prefer male hairdressers but the last one I had was in the late 90s. I feel like men look at us differently and can flatter us better. Although I've had one or 2 good women hairdressers but...not often. My next one will be a guy. Period.] I've actually texted my stylist photos of me WEARING MY HAIR and then she still can't duplicate it. Does this look difficult? Like a lion! Curl it with flat iron, run my fingers through to fluff, shake and go. The not too done look. facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10206821881375471&set=p.10206821881375471&type=3&permPage=1 (And yes, I still use hairspray. Nexxus or Airspray for movement with just enough movement.) Ahh. So good to talk hair with someone who knows...
@PatriciaNixon
@PatriciaNixon 8 жыл бұрын
Oh...btw. What temp is your flat iron on? Did I miss that? I'm usually at 350. I could go 370 but not necessary and I don't do more than one pass over the length of hair and I'm done. Garnier No Frizz Serum (the one in the short pump bottle) is ironically the only thing I've stuck with for over 2 years now. It's the only one I really see great humidity resistance but still...I will get fluffy sometimes if it's very humid, considering the long time with no perm. (And you will nevah evah catch me in a stylist's chair on a Saturday. I do weekdays only. I can't be bothered with *appointments* that aren't really appointments. If I'm ready on time, you be 2! Ok, must stop and get some breakfast. So glad I found your channel. I've never jumped in with conversation around this topic. Great company...all the commenters, too! So friendly.

I lived in the DC area for 4+ years. I just relocated back to the Midwest. Yes, your hair is gorgeous! It's sad that some hair dressers don't have the skills to duplicate a look. It's very empowering to learn how to do it on your own. I'm glad you know how to get your hair exactly how you like it. That's the true key to success!! ❤️

I use 350 when I lived in the Midwest but due to the humidity in DC, I used 410 degrees out there. Garnier No Frizz Serum also worked wonders for me a few years ago but I have not used it in a long time. I think it's because I have been deep conditioning with natural aloe vera juice; my hair doesn't frizz out like it used to. Thanks so much for chatting with me; I'm sorry I couldn't get back to you as soon as I liked but feel free to hit me up whenever you need! XOXO

Tetsurō Kuroo Is Amazing I would be as open and honest with your parent. Express to him/her that you do not like your hair being relaxed and give them a few reasons why; do your research if you need to... just in case you want to make sure your points are valid and that your points make sense in your parent’s eyes. Find out why your parent wants your hair relaxed and see if you can come to a happy medium; a compromise. Maybe it involves you learning more about hair care so that you can start your own journey or if your parent pays for you to go to a stylist, maybe check to see if you can find one who specializes in natural hair care if your current stylist doesn’t already... You got this! Keep me posted to let me know what happens after you speak to your parent. 💞

so i guess you dont have to big chop if you dont want too ? i was wondering will you still get the same curls?
@DenayTheDiva
@DenayTheDiva 8 жыл бұрын
Correct, you do not have to big chop but you do have to gradually cut your relaxed ends if you want to wear curls. Your textures won't be the same so you have to use caution when trying to wear curls. The best best is to wear twist-outs, perm rods, braidouts, bantu knots and other styles until you're ready to completely chop your hair. I only recommend wash-n-go's if your hair is completely natural ❤

I've been considering heat training my hair recently. I miss the length that I have when I straighten my hair since my hair shrinks more than 50% of it's actual length when I wear a wash-n-go. Although I've heard the term before I don't know much about it, so what exactly does heat trained mean?
@DenayTheDiva
@DenayTheDiva 8 жыл бұрын
To me, heat training is basically where you are training your hair to have a sleek finish when flat ironing. The key to heat training is basically training your hair to take heat while also maintaining the overall health of your hair (keeping your curl pattern in-tact). 💜 Your hair is SUPER long, I really, really love your hair!

what do u apply before combing and is it hair dryer
@DenayTheDiva
@DenayTheDiva 8 жыл бұрын
Hello Shahida! Thanks for watching. All of the details are in my description box along with videos that walk you through the process: • I shampoo'd my hair with Organix Keratin Oil shampoo. Then I added Organix Keratin Oil conditioner + Every StrandTM's Deep Conditioner Hair Masque + Aloe Vera juice. Once all of those products have been added to my hair, I placed a shower cap on top and deep conditioned for 30 minutes. • I then rinsed my hair with cold water. Once thoroughly rinsed, I then began to detangle with my wide tooth comb. After detangling, I sprayed my hair with a thermal heat protectant. I then blow dried my hair (using a Gold 'N Hot blow dryer with a comb attachment). • Once completely dried, I then added more heat protectant and straightened my hair.

I want to transition my hair. My hair has been relaxed for as long as I can remember because of my mom. I was wondering how should you train yourself to start a regimen. I need an example
@DenayTheDiva
@DenayTheDiva 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Deshaunta, thanks SO much for watching! When starting a regimen, I would recommend finding out what works for you and then continuing to do that same thing a certain amount of times. For example, if you know what type of shampoo/conditioner your hair likes, plan to wash your hair once a week... twice a week, etc. If you find out that your hair likes a certain type of oil, find out how often you want to oil your hair and scalp... I think it all depends on personal preference. Whatever you like, create a plan to do that very thing a certain amount of times; stay on that schedule. Does that make sense?

I don't get relaxers anymore. :) I got my first relaxer when I was on my way into high school. I was not relaxed my whole life so I already had an idea of what my hair was like before getting it relaxed. Although I loved the relaxer and it was perfect for when I did sports and cheered but I definitely love my transitioning hair more now more than anything. I would say it was a mix between peer pressure and curiosity as to why I got my first relaxer. Thanks for watching. I'd love to help with your hair if you have any questions.
