You made me excited about this transition. I’ve been transitioning for over 1 year and I wear protective styles most of the time and I think I’m going to be that person that’s gonna be looking crazy at the end. Thanks so much for this video. I gotta learn my hair and be happy with it.

Jewell Johnson there are great brands like Camille Rose Naturals, Shea Moisture, Creme of nature. You want to pick a wash day once a week and during the week when it feels like it's getting dry, it's time to refresh it by spraying it with some water and use a moisturizing cream.

Sebo M yes, I always tell people to listen to their hair and do what’s best for them. You have to learn what works and what limits you can push. For me personally, I just don’t like keeping styles in that long. But if it works for you, and you don’t experience really bad breakage and shedding, then go for it 🤗

Aaaa.. I’ve straightened my hair for a whole month once.. And I didn’t use any heat protectant which either you use it or not you still have risk of having heat damage.. And mine is bad. It’s curly until collar bone to shoulder length. I’m gonna start to transition back because I miss my curls bro.. Anyway I just found your channel and thanks so much for all these tips girl ❤️

@lyasiainthecity
@lyasiainthecity 6 жыл бұрын
Gigi Feaster I don't think that I can give you answers to exactly what the cause is. Do you use direct heat at all? 🤔 we all have different textures throughout our hair so idk if it's that or an elasticity issue. Make sure you're deep conditioning weekly.

@lyasiainthecity

Gigi Feaster being that you use direct heat, it can possibly be heat damage that's caused that part to lose its elasticity. I would say stay away from it.

I know im very late, but i stopped relaxing my hair last august, and i have curly hair down to my shoulders and the rest is straight ends. I want to cut the straight stragglers off, but im afraid its going to shrink up. Also, my hair doesnt really grow fast, its takes so long to grow. I deep condition my hair atleast once every 2 weeks, i brush my hair in the shower. I use products that keep my hair moisturized. What am i not doing that i should be doing?

Jo Jo the best thing for you to do is slowly trim away the relaxed hair. It's inevitable that you will experience breakage. The tips I've mentioned in the video about keeping your hair moisturized and detangling only with a good conditioner that has tons of slip are great ways to minimize on breakage.

I stopped relaxing my hair in January and I'm afraid to cut my hair. The natural hair has grown at least 5 inches but it's growing really slow should I cut off the relaxed ends? And will it be good if I keep my hair in box braids till I'm at a comfortable length?
@lyasiainthecity
@lyasiainthecity 6 жыл бұрын
Teala Foster cut it off when you're ready. If you don't think you'll be comfortable with the length, just keep transitioning. Box braids are helpful and give you a nice break but I personally wouldn't keep them in longer than 4 weeks.
@lyasiainthecity
@lyasiainthecity 6 жыл бұрын
It may seem like your hair is growing slow but it's right on track. The average persons hair grows a quarter to half an inch a month. 🤗 just keep going and keep it moisturized!

Girl...cut it...straight hair vs curly hair...snap, crackle, and pop...they are arch enemies and stay creating tangles. It is a lot of work keeping the straight and curly hair separated and untangled. A protective style is good but it should not be used too long without proper hair hygiene. It is important to keep bacteria, oils, sweat, dust and dirt to a minimum. Plus stinky hair is unattractive. Two strand flat twists sets are a good go-to to manage and train your hair to behave the way you want it. Bantu knots are also good for training your curls as your hair gets longer; larger sections lead to larger curls while smaller sections lead to tighter curls. I hope this helps. Be happy and natural.

So I've been natural my whole life but was addicted to straightening + adding in clip ins ha. So im assuming I can treat my hair as if I'm transitioning too? I still have a lot of curls but it has gotten shorter from breakage and straightened pieces. I'm trying to give it 3 months and then snip about 1.5 inches off where it needs it? Keep doing that until its all gone? humongous chop not needed? I'm staying ultra moisturized (especially on the ends), deep conditioning, sulfate free washing no heat. BTW nice delivery very sincere and informative video. Thanks
@lyasiainthecity
@lyasiainthecity 4 жыл бұрын
Portia VL yes, in this case you’ll be transitioning from heat damage oppose to from relaxed hair. Stay away from the heat and do like you mentioned, keep taking care of it and slowly start clipping away the straight ends. Good luck on your journey 🤗

My hair is naturally straight and i want to grow it into curls. I have started my natural hair transition journey (3months) cos it was chemically damaged. I'm trying to get some products to help with that process, so do you mind recommending any product for straight to curls transition?

Please consider finger detangling with oil on dry hair before you shampoo. OIls are great for slip, protect hair from hygral fatigue, and make detangling so much easier and faster than detangling on wet hair with conditioner. The hair is most fragile when wet, so you might be breaking your hair off in the long term if you detangle when wet. I resisted the prepoo for years, but I was so wrong to think it would add time to my wash day. Prepoo and finger detangling with fractionan=ted coconut oil shaved 1 hour from wash day. Use any oil you prefer. Also, hair porosity is the most important thing to learn about your hair. Once you know your porosity, you can find products that work for you and avoid becoming a product junkie.

I tried finger detangling and will never do it again 😂 lmao it’s not for me. It in fact does take longer and honestly, I don’t get breakage from the detangling when wet with conditioner. Likely because I’m gentle and not just ripping through my hair. But we all have our preferred methods. That’s why finding what works for you as an individual is so important regardless of the endless information out there. And yes, knowing your porosity is key in understanding what products can work for you. I have low porosity. Thank you so much for your suggestions. I’m glad you found a routine that’s working for you 🤗

LittleDebbie I plan to make a video of products that worked for me but keep in mind that everyone's hair is different so what I used may not always work for the next person. Also, I have a few videos on my channel from when I was transitioning and show the products that I used.

coffeenatednix for me, I would wear my hair is braid outs because that was the only thing that blended the textures best. It doesn't last long, but that's just what it is. I would rebraid it after like the 3rd day.

Nya B thanks for subscribing 🤗 are you staying away from heat completely? It's important that you do or it'll continue to be damaged. Your hair will grow back, it'll just take time but as long as you're taking care of it it'll grow. Try following the tips from the video.

love this video!! i’m going natural soon and I have a question: should I wash my hair once a week or is that too often? and also after washing my hair can I just put in like a bun and let it air dry?
@lyasiainthecity
@lyasiainthecity 5 жыл бұрын
Kiara Alston washing once a week is fine. That’s what I did while transitioning. Also, wearing a bun is fine. It’s really up to you on how you choose to style your hair. Just make sure you’re properly moisturizing your hair. Never just put it in a bun without putting in your leave in and a moisturizing cream to keep your hair from breaking/shedding. Good luck on your journey 🤗

Thank you so much for the excellent tips. I have never been properly taught how to do my hair. I have not had a relaxer in over 10+ years. I have ALWAYS washed my hair, blow dried, and then straightened it every.single.week. I have had a few Brazillian Blowout treatments in the past 5 years with the most recent one being this past January to help tame my frizz. Am I considered a "natural" since there are no chemicals in my hair or am I still in the transition phase? My hair when wet has a thick layer or new growth followed by straight raggedy hair. I am not a fan of protective styles, wigs, weaves, or anything else pulling my hair or scalp. How can I grow my hair out and throw away the straightening tools for good?

Shundrell Gray that's great. Big chop whenever you're ready. I think the Camille Rose Naturals sweet ginger cleanser is a great shampoo and Aussie Mega moist is my absolute fave conditioner for detangling.

Do I have to clip a little off my relax ends ...can it just grow straight out without any clipping?
@lyasiainthecity
@lyasiainthecity Жыл бұрын
If you plan to long term transition, then I suggest that you slowly start clipping away at the ends. The two textures will become challenging and more fragile, making it prone to breakage. I find it best to get a trim every 4-6 months maybe. This is what I did and it helped me be able to transition long term. Everyone is different so always do what you feel is best for you 🤗
