We don't 100% know if this is true. There was suicide in kids back then mostly due to bullying. Contrary to what elders like to copypaste on this topic, kids DID get bullied for being F words etc. But I would GUESS most kids who did the permanent deed were actually just LGB but there are bound to be those who would have grown up to be T but precious few. In some modern s spaces, esp the extremely non LGB channels, there is rising sentiment among god awful MEN that we should bring back bullying. There is a false belief things were rosy back then for everyone. Talk about a vicious cycle to guarantee we keep these problems returning.

Actually it was a thing as far back as the early 70s. Some school teacher tried it on me when I was very young. As a bright kid from what was then called an under-privileged family, there were no shortage of teachers and sundry professionals who "knew what was best for me". I'm a 43-year-old goth, what was usually a fad for teens is my way of life... Maybe this is spreading like wildfire like goth did in the 80s and 90s, BUT it is very different - goth wasn't being taught in schools and lauded as the moralistic high ground, it didn't involve medicalizing or otherwise irreparably harming children... it was just about music and clothing, which are easily changeable will no adverse effects. If anything, this is presenting more like the former cutting or anorexia epidemics. I do applaud this doctor's views otherwise though - there is usually something else going on, and nobody is taking the time (or is even allowed) to ask questions and get to the root of why someone thinks they are the opposite gender.

Exactly. Genuine subcultures are never taught from the top down - that is why they are SUBcultures. For some, goth is a way of life indeed well past one's teen years, and there are in fact socio-psychological factors that drive certain people towards being goth. I haven't met a goth without some history of emotional or other trauma/abuse and the subsequent focus on the dark sides of reality where things aren't sunshine and rainbows. Myself included. Being "goth" is my own business, no one who doesn't know me well would suspect it , as I don't dress black all the time. To think that kids these days demand that their "identity" is validated and affirmed by everyone around them suggests severe emotional instability. I would like to correct that "born in the wrong body" wasn't usually regarding intersex (a topic back then subject to cruel hermaphrodite jokes). Jamie Lee Curtis was an adult subject of this rumor which is probably partly why she is all in with the trans thing. My very hazy memory from childhood even tells me there is a dramatic side character on Dallas who did it in the late seasons. Not a main character.

I was born in the wrong body. I was born with a blind eye. And every single day of my life, I wake up in pain, from chronic conjunctivitis crystals scratching under my eyelid. I wake up expecting to see through two eyes, and when the realisation that I'm visually impaired sets in, I feel immense depression and anxiety. I feel dysphoria. My body is wrong. From the joints that subluxate and overextend, to my brain not producing enough dopamine or firing neurons the same way as everyone else. I am also non-binary. I see the gender binary being based off genitals very perverted. Why do you base my whole existence of life, what roles outside of biology/limbic urges I fulfill, how I'm treated by my genitals? It seems so very perverted to me. The fact that I feel disability dysphoria, because I was born in the wrong body, shouldn't make understanding trans people so hard, now should it.

This reminds me of the meme Square one: Kid: "mum, dad, I'm trans,". Square two: Parents: **pushes kid away** Square three: Peer group and teachers: "we will support you whatever you choose,". Square four: Parents: "you're transing our child!" You see, detransitioners do deserve love and support, especially because teen years are a very confusing time. However, there was less detransitioners than there are people who regret getting any other form of cosmetic surgery. And the vast majority of detransitioners are still transgender, they happen to be in a situation at home or in their community where it is not safe to be themselves, so they "go back into the closet". Hormone blockers have been used for decades to prevent precocious puberty, and essentially prescribing this medication to trans teens gives them the time to figure out the right choice for them. Most countries allow 16 years old to make medical decisions which, yes will alter their bodies for the rest of their life, however it's not your child, not your body, not your business. Why are you all so worried about the fertility of a young person who may not even want biological children. They may wanna practice what some of you preach about pregnancy termination and adopt. Gods know, there are millions who need loving homes. Always trust the newest study findings. If you base your worldview amd ideaology off studies and textbooks from the 80s, then your beliefs are simply not credible. And even if these children don't go to the extreme, they will still be very unhappy. I'd rather a happy child with a penis wearing a skirt if she so pleases, than a depressed child who laments life.

What do you mean? There are lots of options for same sex attracted to have kids, but none if you sterilise the teens. This is never ok except eg in cancer.

Gender identity is about which development you want or none at all. It's not about stereotypes and roles.

Stereotypes and gender roles are the only way to express a gender identity. Transitioning kids halts their development and keeps them in a perpetual state of childhood. Puberty isn't an option, it's the only way to grow up. It's the only way to confirm your sexuality and mature into a functioning adult. The right puberty is the one your sex determines. Transitioning is an adult decision.

@@sianais Gender identity is determined by which development you want. Adolescents who are in transition take the hormone of the gender they identify with and they mature under those hormones. Many have masters and doctorate degrees so I'm not quite sure what you mean about remaining in perpetual childhood. Natal females who take testosterone grow facial hair and get a deep voice. All major medical professional professional organizations agree and where is your doctorate? I bet you don't know any transgender people. You're just greasing the wheel to eliminate hormones for adults anyway. First off, it's near impossible to transition if you went through male puberty and didn't protein/calorie restrict. Is that what you want? No, you want to call these people out because adults who transition will influence adolescents. You'll have to bring the grift out that "you can't change your biology." If one can "choose" then it's subject to regulation and is far from science. We do have protection for religion which one does choose but I doubt that the same graces will apply especially when dealing with grifters who don't have our interest at heart.

My 8 year old neice was convinced to become a boy by her older online friends (now banned unsupervised online) because she liked hot wheels and outdoor sports. Things that are considered to be associated with boys. Because a stranger says so and an 8 year old thinks they are right, by your logic we MUST help them transition. Rather than investigate it.

Two decades ago I raised 4 kids in the California schools system. Everything came to a head and changed when my kids kept coming home throwing fits because so many kids wanted to talk about porn or sexual identities. This was early as 5th grade. A child could NOT say they were heterosexual if they wanted to fit in. They couldn't say they were a virgin. They couldn't say they didn't want to experiment sexually. If you think kids can be groomed into trans gender ideology, but not into homosexual casual sex culture, you aren't paying attention.
