This show is a cinematic masterpiece. Extremely slept on

I'm one of those snobs that complain when most adaptations fail to properly adapt written media to the big screen. Yet, 86 has been one of the very few shows where, imo, the adsptation goes above and beyond the original and only serves to improve upon the original. It's directing was incredible and the team responsible at A1 really deserve all the praise they can get. There is almost nothing I could fault about this adaptation,

One thing of note is that, in the first volume (and maybe the second one), the transitions were so sudden that you had to read a paragraph or two to realise the scene had changed. This has somewhat the same feeling.
@neurofiedyamato87632 жыл бұрын
This was most obvious with the first one. Especially since unlike some other LNs, there isn't some space or marking to indicate a transition.

Toshimasa Ishii, the director of the 86 anime, definitely deserves an Oscar award at this point. Not only has he done a great job at sticking to the original source material from the LN while adapting the story of the 86 into an anime, but he also manage to connect all the scenes together beautifully with these transitions. And it’s rare anyone pull that sort of thing off when adapting a LN into an anime.

Those first few transitions where something like dropped/spilled food transitioned into someone getting shot or the sounds of the battlefield were so shocking for my brain - I wasn't expecting the sudden shift to violence and loss, and that's exactly what the lives of the 86 are like. I also think it's a brilliant way of showing how the most mundane things could remind a soldier of war (spoken with full awareness that I have not experienced this, so I apologize if it's inaccurate to someone's actual experience of this). Also - thanks for compiling these! I always thought the transitions were amazing, and this video helped me notice ones I hadn't appreciated as much!

The anime would've turned out very average if it wasn't for the genius that is the director. That guy was an assistant director to almost all animes animated by A1 Pictures. And of course, I'm not just talking about the transitions.
@jackjulius48142 жыл бұрын
True but 86 light novel its really really good so i dont think they/author would allow "incompetent" Director to direct it Personally i think the reason this anime turned out great because everyone contribution the music, the animation, the philosophy, even the author (because the author participate at all meeting/discussion ,idk why but usually the author or mangaka isnt involved or isn't heavily involved when making the anime) so yeah great anime and everyone in the producing team did a really great job even though covid happend.
@Charlie981442 жыл бұрын
@@jackjulius4814 I don't think the author has a say in who directed it. The author gets a contract to sign off permission to use her work. Highly doubt they asked hey, which director or studio would you like to work with. It is probably one of the rare times we see author actually have a say in how it was made. Usually you hear about directors chopping off a necessary volume or detail and the author being pissed.

I seriously love that, no wonder it came out so well. You can feel the author's intention when it comes to what emotions and themes she wanted to be conveyed. The characters feel like they have real emotions in every action they perform. Especially Shin.
