Thanks for sharing this. We just returned from our fourth visit to Vancouver in as many years. We stay at the Arundel Mansions which is that funky old building you see on the left when leaving New West station. We love the Skytrain system but are glad the last train of the day is around midnight so we can sleep!

This train system fascinates me. The fact thats it's fully automated and doesn't require an operator on every train. I currently live in calgary, and the amount of delays is insane. Mind you we have a bunch of at grade crossings, which means a lot of idiot interference. Anyways, awesome videos. Looking forward to hopefully riding those trains in a year.

Its not entirely uncontrolled. In the United States we do have people who have issues keeping safe and off ground level tracks especially at junctions. Unfortunately TransLink is somewhat like BART in San Francisco in some ways as being poorly designed particularly for non core urban people. I appreciate the planning that has gone into this though, I don't know if you are aware of the Bay Area but if you are BART never thought that San Jose or Pleasanton were to be of any serious towns, and they banked basically downtown San Francisco only as their major business district. General Eisenhower after he became President made a legendary big fat bond issue that created the national highway system, but we never expanded on that approach other than piecemeal ways.

@@martintheiss743 I mean, BART is currently extending to San Jose but they're still bickering about Livermore. The Skytrain doesn't have a lot of glaring issues except for UBC and North Vancouver.

There are many driverless systems; as the VAL, on rubber wheels, as in Turin, Italy.

Wow, that Mark III train's pretty nice! I saw a real one parked at Waterfront Station during the Mark III Reveal, which I wasn't able to attend. It looked pretty nice on the outside though

Welwyn22. Can you record Canada Line from YVR Airport or Richmond-Brighouse to Waterfront. Because the annoucements for Broadway City-Hall and Waterfront have changed. For Broadway City-Hall it says. 1. The next station is Broadway City-Hall. Exit here for the 99 B-Line and for Waterfront it says. The next station is Terminus Station Waterfront. Connect here to the Expo Line, Seabus and West Coast Express. Exit here for the 95 B-Line

but you did king George twice. cause I like it when the mark 3 goes to Production Way/University
@Welwyn227 жыл бұрын
Daniel King What do you mean by that? Waterfront-King George has been done once this year (mostly due to feature most of the new trains and the station refurbishment projects). Another video from King George to Waterfront will follow on a refurbished Mk1 later this year, late-September most likely. I could record New Westminster to Production around the same time - but it could be on a Mk2 instead.

@@Welwyn22 There is already a video going from Waterfront to King George recorded in 2015 with better announcements and a 4-car Mark 1 train.

Welwyn22 can you do a video of a Mark 3 Skytrain ride from Waterfront to Production Way/University please. I would be pleased if you do
@Welwyn227 жыл бұрын
Daniel King There already is one from Production to Columbia. There's no point doing the same route twice unless something significant has changed.

They should really consider installing platform doors.
@Welwyn224 жыл бұрын
Platform doors wouldn't work due to the differing locations of the doors between Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 trains.
@orbitalpotato99404 жыл бұрын
@@Welwyn22 yeah, they would have to update all the trains to mk3. But then you could have an system that adjusts the platform doors location depending on if a mk1, 2,or 3 is pulling into the station. The system could have guide wheels along the floor with pre programmed fixed locations each door can stop at.
@orbitalpotato99404 жыл бұрын
@@Welwyn22 they could start with the Canada line cause it has only one type of train.
@orbitalpotato99404 жыл бұрын
@@Welwyn22 or you know, just have multiple sets of doors with an indicator depending on which train comes. (if the difference is big) Or If the location on the mk1, 2, 3 doors is only slightly off, have the doors open wider or narrower
@Welwyn224 жыл бұрын
@@orbitalpotato9940 I don't think TransLink is going to waste money on platform doors, especially since they already wasted millions of dollars on ticket barriers that skids and delinquents just jump over all the time. The tracks are all fitted with intrusion alarms too.
