You can add all the quarts with the dipstick port open while you fill. No burping at all
@josephjohnston22433 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. Many people will tell you that all of these Patriots just have the CVT, so there's not much help for the 6 speed automatic. I drained what looked like three quarts (I won't have any empty measured container until I empty the gallon jug I bought), and then filled with three quarts. When I opened the inspection cover, it came gushing out. Also, I can see the fluid level in the filler neck. Could something be preventing fluid from getting down to the bottom of the reservoir? Right now I don't even have a solid feeling of how much fluid is actually in there.
@jessedrifts3 жыл бұрын
Yes If you fill it too fast it will bubble up. The transmission is sealed so that's the point of air evacuation unless you open the inspection cover to drain while you fill the transmission.

I did my inlaws 14 jeep patriot it has the same transmission as yours ,they bought the transmission filter with gasket ,and they got 5qt of liquid moly transmission fluid, I looked at the trans pan shape and bolt holes compared it to the gasket it looked correct and bolt holes. so drained out 4.25 qt ,took trans pan off and could not see the filter nothing that looked like the new filter so I went on cleaning pan ,then noticed the gaskets are different the new gasket looked very similar to the pan's shape but at the bottom left corner is different 😮 ,so went on cleaning the pan and reused the original gasket,I thought the transmission fluid was the wrong but it says sp-iv the liquid moly transmission fluid is brownish color not the typical red I see lol ,where are these transmission filters located
@james4wd2363 жыл бұрын
I just serviced my friends Jeep with new fluid and I just put in the first 3 in then started it and then put it in neutral running and filled it with another qt and it worked fine. Honesty I have no idea why Chrysler wouldn't recommend filling the tranny from a fill plug in neutral. All the other manufacturers do it that way.

Can you check the fluid from the inspection port with that black dipstick before draining it ?
@jonathanromero86393 жыл бұрын
So i jus did this today on my patriot, same 6F24 case, 3 quarts were what came out when I drained it, took the little black cap off the hose thats to the left on top of the transmission to burp the air or watever u wanna call it, filled 3 quarts through the fill port, closed it and checked the level on the fluid through the checkport on the back of the transmision at operating temprature or about 125°F. Checked it with the special dipstick that is used to check through that check port, with 3 qts in there and at operating temperature...dry so i added another to make it 4qts and let it set in n checked again and there was barely anything on the tip of the dipstick, so i added 1 more qt thats 5qts total and it looked like it got to 20-25 on the dipstick which is what they say it should be at on the dipstick. Took it for a test drive and i could already feel better performance.
@MrDodgyh3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it is 5 quarts. And you're right to have taken of the plug in the breathing tube, that allows for the addition of the final 2 quarts. This is a good video, just missing that little bit about the breather tube. Still will be very helpful for the average user.
@jameshopkins57022 жыл бұрын
Factory it requires 4.3 quarts
@jessedrifts2 жыл бұрын
you all don't realize the torque converter holds a significant amount of fluid. So unless you pull that out or use a fluid exchanger, you aren't getting a full 4.3 quart drain.
@jameshopkins57022 жыл бұрын
@@jessedrifts you should be getting four Quarts in a drain you can count how many quarts you take out. Very simple to do that just by using a funnel and letting it drain into an empty oil change container

Any Ideas??? Please. Thank you

Take it to a certified mechanic. You can experiment if you want but I wouldn't because if it doesn't work you're out a transmission on a vehicle you owe on. You can try a fluid change but that's all I'd do

@Huff02674 жыл бұрын

@jessedrifts4 жыл бұрын
It has a pre-filter but you have to take apart the transmission to get it out. It's more of a filter to prevent big things from getting in there. Not necessary to change unless you had dirt or contaminated fluid get in there
@jonathanromero86393 жыл бұрын
Im pretty sure u have to replace the filter and gasket by dropping the pan on the transmission...thats the part I didnt see in the video.
@jessedrifts3 жыл бұрын
No you don't. The transmission filter is a pre-filter. The micron size is bigger than the clutch material size in micron so it won't collect the clutch material. If you do that you need to take it to the dealer unless you know what you're doing.

@@jessedrifts I realize that... but there is a special dipstick that you can buy and use to check the level..I was asking where it goes. But thanks so much for the help 👍
@jessedrifts3 жыл бұрын
If you buy the one it goes in the back of the case of the transmission. Right above the axles almost touching the firewall. You cannot see it and the only way to reach it is to reach your hand around under the car forward above the steering rack and find the bolt. FCA discontinued this method for good reason. You have to use a long fill tube from the engine bay to get to it. And the fluid level is dependant on the temperature. At that point if you don't want to do it the way I showed you should take it to a dealer or otherwise as assumed at your own risk. *This video is for entertainment purposes only*

When I search for tranny fluid I keep getting search results for Mopar ATF-4. Is this amsoil the other I've been reading about ATF SP-IV? I got the 6F24 I'm just confused if I should get the ATF-4 type or not. I can't tell which is "newer" only that SP-IV has a lower viscosity. 2nd Question did you say at the end of video you wait a week of driving and repeat? I'm guessing to get a majority of the "old" fluid out?
@dareptile26533 жыл бұрын
For example I'm seeing this.. the price is more attractive compared to Hyundai OEM or Amsoil Signature www.amazon.com/dp/B00BV4D182/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_C5VSTF31AZQMJHDXAEEA

Chrysler ATF+4*, MOPAR* ASRC, 68089195AA, 68049954AA This is what Chrysler and Mopar specs it meets and exceeds. If price is your issue, amsoil is not for you. It's above the standard for protection.

@@jessedrifts I can afford it, can't help but notice the cost difference AT+4 vs SP-4. All the sources I'm finding say the fluid should be ATF SP-4 which is why they pointed you to the Amsoil I'm guessing by reading the back of it I can see it mentions SP-4. Any of the SP4 rated ones seem to avg 25/Quart. I might just look at my fluid and see if the condition is fine, because I just got this and have been doing maintenance just for fun. For all I know there is new fluid in there but I doubt it. I got 156k miles.

Give a Chrysler dealer the last 8 digits of your VIN and they can tell you what transmission you have. I think 2.0L has CVT. The 2.4L has the non CVT.
@EGL24Xx8 ай бұрын
Drive your car. If you accelerate with zero shifting, then it's a CVT. If the car shifts automatically as you speed up, it's not a CVT. The non CVT transmission in this car is NOT subtle. You will feel it and you can watch the revs drop
