Honda engine builder 10years experience: Castrol/Amsoil/Liquid Moly/Eneos/RedLine are top brand Gear Oils you want the weight of 75w-90 with no GL-5/GL4 qualifying or any lsd-additives (for friction), because honda DC5R has a helical type diff. Honda synchros are coated with a Honda plastic compound(or carbon if your trans is built) they have no need for friction additives, Honda built them in mind to bump(why you hear and feel its crude to shift while cold or the occasional reverse grind) Synchromesh gear oil was designed for GM/FORD and generally have LSD friction additives.. I dont recommend using any oils that have friction additives for Honda's. Synchromesh gear oil's will quiet down the shifting because of the additives while also making it smoother but most of the PNR3 trans rebuilds are synchro rebuilds due to bad/cheap/incorrect gear oils being used. Good indication of a bad gear oil mix is if after a prolonged use when drained the gear oil has a funky/rotting smell to it. [EDIT] Also the honda MTF is not that good, any avid honda guy will remove that and never go back to it.

Which one do you use exactly?

@@amirparvez5415 for a Manual Honda Castrol Syntec Gear oil 75w-90 or Any will work without LSD friction additives and no GL4/GL1 (like GM's synchromesh, blew 2GSR trans and 1 K20) back of bottle should tell you additives 75w90 is basic gear oil, refinement synthetic and additives change friction properties why I recommend against, shifting smoothly doesn't mean ur transmission is working better

Got myself into an 05 type S. 180k on it. Dunno when trans fluid was changed or IF it was. Been getting 3rd. gear grind from time to time and its annoying and definitely don’t want to mess up the transmission. I’ve been driving manual for 20+ yrs. and never had that experience. I use to own a first year S (02) when they where new so I’m familiar with the car. Thinking of changing the fluid to OEM. Besides the Ac Delco & MT… would changing to OEM also do the trick? I’m not racing it or anything like that. Just a daily.

Can anyone attest to the longevity of Acdelco, I replaced my OEM fluid with royal purple and it’s been okay, I didn’t have any grinding but the occasional pop out so I figured why not change it, I’m going to be changing it again and would prefer to find what works best but their are a million opinions on this topic. Mainly between amsoil, Honda green label MTF, and acdelco, so has anyone tried all 3? Or used acdelco for a long enough time to give an opinion on performance and longevity.
@DC5RParts3 жыл бұрын
I used all of three fluids. ACDelco solved my pop out and grinding issues. I’ve been running it for over 4 years now. Butter. Don’t hesitate

Yes, give it some time to break in. Changing to this fluid with fix or remedy an existing issue but won't completely fix it. 9/10 people experience good results. Just give it time. 👌🏻

You should never need anything other than Honda MTF in your gearbox. If you have issues then you need to fix your gearbox, different fluids will only mask the problems and they will continue to get worse. Another tip for the power steering is to attach the return pipe to a container whilst running the engine and turning the wheel, you just need an extra person to keep the reservoir topped up
@DC5RParts6 жыл бұрын
Honda transmission Fluids are not the greatest, they have made revisions of their own fluid for a reason (Green Label). 90% of issues can be solved with a proper lubrication. In many of our cases, Getting a good quality fluid will solve exactly that. Of course if a transmission is broken. Fluid will not fix it. It's just not logical and no fluid on Earth will save it. Good tip on the PS for those who don't know. That's actually Honda's tech procedure. I did it on my blue DC5. The one showed on video is just another way. Thank you for watching
