2007 explorer rebuilt first transmission at 120, was fine till about 180 but out of warranty and went out again, I just replaced with with one from the junk yard, that one got me to 250 and then I junked it, it was a good day watching it go

This was a fantastic video, thank you. The high level of experience in tearing these down is amazing. Intimate knowledge of every part, what to look for, how to disassemble it, wow! This was like watching a medical surgeon. My 2005 Explorer 4.6L is having trouble, if you get on it hard, it will growl and sounds like metal on metal, put in N and turn off key, for 8sec, restart, and it's okay again. Also coming to full stop, off key, wait 8-10 sec, restart, and okay again. Checked fluid it's very dark and is now topped off.

That was amazing to watch! your skill and knowledge is to be admired. The final conclusion I took from this is that this Ford 5R55S is a piece of junk, poorly engineered. Unfortunately, I have this transmission in my 2007 Mustang GT. It has yet to give me any issues with 128,000 miles on the car, but at least I know what to do and what to tell the Transmission repair guys to look at if I do have problems with it. Thanks for this amazing video and your time.

@@mikejohnson9118 it's just a 2005, v6 convertible. It had a broken reverse band and broken sprag in the reverse drum. I replaced both. I had to get some help on adjusting the shif cable, as the neutral safety switch kept engaging while in reverse. But I'm in good shape now. Nothing moded on it. just a fun car to cruise around in on nice days with the top down.

I just picked up a 4.0 mustang with this trans, got a deal because reverse was out. I knew it had to be the servo and I was right it owukd go into reverse but just barely roll...however it's clear he was driving on it for quite a while like that. First time I put it in reverse to see what it did I could hear metal on metal squealing then something grabbed hard and broke, no reverse engagement at all. Yay. I'm sure the band anchor gave up the goat or worse. So I just ordered a used trans. I'll throw new pistons in it and clean everything up before I put it in because I know it'll be dropping gears like flies.

Ford always seems to build a solid truck. Then they stuff a peice of the engine or transmission in it. 90s Explorer's with that A4LD transmission sucked. The one that came after that 4R70 I think it was just a electronically shifted A4LD. It was kinda better. Then that 6.0 diesel that engine family had many problems. Then you got the dual clutch transmission in the Focus,(aka Fuckus). Those are still having issues since about 2011. I own a 93 Explorer.,That rig is on its 3rd A4LD transmission. I like it,its paid for,its only got 150k on it. The prior owner replaced it 2 times and it went out. I bought it from her in excellent condition cheap cheap because it needed a transmission. I had it upgraded when I replaced. No issues yet. 🤞🤞 I been driving it for about 3 years now.

I wish I had seen Your videos when I had my 2001 Ram transmission rebuilt, just had my buddy drain system and blow out lines, trans filter weighed 3 times what it should. Clogged brand new heavy duty cooler and burned the Amsoil fluid up. I'm still having the light and code come up for the switching solenoids but have replaced them and same code flashes up within 100 k or so. Thinking it is the governing solenoid and or it's sensor also?? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Question, would a install of a wireless interlock device cause instant issues after install, of delay and other issues catching gears? For a 2007 explorer XLT. ? Asking for a friend. ?
@MustangGuy19962 жыл бұрын
My 05 mustang with this same transmission shifts completely fine in all forward gears but reverse takes exactly 15 seconds to engage…no more no less and it only does this when the engines warmed up. When reverse does engage it’s very smooth it doesn’t slam into gear…Also it will go into reverse immediately with no delay when cold starting. I’ve already changed the filter and replaced the fluid twice. No flashing O/D light, no check engine light and no slipping/delayed gear engagement in drive. Just this weird problem with reverse. It’s been this way for almost a year since I bought the car and it hasn’t gotten any worse. What in the world could be causing this???

Great video, Have you ever seen a servo snap ring start to come out of the groove? My explorer developed an ATF leak and I notice the snap ring was almost half way out of the groove on the large bore. I need to get a better look, but it looks like the groove is intact. I am not sure if I can just push the cap back in and reseat/replace the snap ring or if it is a sign of a much bigger problem. My servo bores were repaired about 200.000 miles ago. The transmission was working fine until the fluid leaked out.
@heavymetalredneck797311 ай бұрын
The servo cover or whatever it's called popped almost all the way out on my brother's ranger! Thats why i found this video I'm hoping i can just tap it back in and the trans will be fine, what did you do about your issue?
@davemall111 ай бұрын
@@heavymetalredneck7973 I tried to reinstall the cover, but it did not work. When I started the Explorer it shot out and dumped all of the fluid very quickly. The snap ring groove was damaged. If yours is out, it almost has to have a damaged groove. There is almost no other way for the snap ring to come out.. I asked my same question in another KZbin comment section and I was told that there is a pressure release valve behind the torque convertor that can go bad and cause this issue. I replaced the transmission because it had a lot of miles on it and the transmission had to come out anyway. I can't remember exactly what the valve was called and I couldn't find the video that I got that answer from, but the channel is Automatic Transmission.

Hello. I have one of these transmission that I purchased to replace my bad Mustang tranny. I bought one with very low miles, but the rear mount (which looks to be part of the tail shaft) is busted at the threaded mount attachment. I see a nut looking cap on a non threaded shaft which holds on that rear wheel. I am going to put my tail shaft on, but can you help me understand how to remove the bold looking (multi point) cap...? I really hope that made sense. thanks so much. Jerry

I really wanted an 05-09 Mustang and see that I'm stuck with this trans because I can't find one in my price range with a 5 speed, if any at all. After a lot of research it has really turned me off from the enjoyment I think I'd otherwise feel owning and driving one of them because I'd always been worried about this POS transmission grenading on me. I've had experience with those servo bore issues in the early 4r70w transmissions. There is a new unit you can buy for the 5r55s that has a groove machined into it so an o-ring will fit onto the shaft. That solves the problem permanently without having to bore and sleeve those holes. The only big issue I had with the 4r's is they only 4 speeds and it was horrible for acceleration. Ford fixed that one issue with this new one and in doing so, introduced a whole slew of new ones.
