I have to say, this has been one of the best automotive instructional video series I have ever watched. Your deliberate style and the fact that you didn't gloss over even the most mundane details made this incredibly informative and educational. In addition, your camera work, lighting and hand work are the most professional I have seen, including videos by large, automotive manufacturing companies. Honestly, before I watched this, I had no intention of ever rebuilding an automatic transmission. It has always seemed like black magic to me. However, now I feel confident that I can do it as long as I stick to your method of breaking each area of the transmission down into manageable tasks. Ol' Henry Ford was right! Sincerest thanks for this series!

I have to comment the videos are absolutely 💯 percent the best KZbin has to offer. I am so happy these video classes are for the same transmission I am rebuilding. I mean he even tells you where to put to put your parts and everything m even shows you each part as he removes it. My only regret is that I wish I could of found these videos before I took it apart because I didn't know where to put my screws bolts exceeds I just put everything in s plastic tube but I have faith these videos will get me through the entire assembly. I highly recommend watching them if you are an amateur doing your own rebuilt because your can't afford to get a new one or a shop to rebuild it for you.

I just finished overhauling my 4R75E (2005 F150 FX4) with your incredible videos. The videos were absolutely fantastic and brilliantly made. The attention to detail in videography, descriptions, and lesson planning far exceed anything I’ve ever seen on KZbin or elsewhere. I could not have completed the overhaul without your helpful videos. Thank you!!

I rarely comment in KZbin. But you Sr, are the best teacher I have seen. These videos are perfectly done, and your explanations very clear. After watching these videos, I feel competent to tackle my 4R75E if needed. Thanks so much.

I started with this video series to rebuild my 2008 F150 2wd transmission. It's a good place to start, and the ATG tech manual is an excellent companion for more details. I ended up installing and removing the transmission a total of 5 times for different issues. The first time was for a massive leak at the bellhousing, which was so bad I could only drive it back up on the ramps and shut down. I had followed the advice to add 4 qts fluid before startup, then add more once the engine was running. I burned the forward and direct frictions by starting it with fluid that low. The second time, I replaced the clutches but couldn't find anything that would cause the bellhousing leak; the seal was good and the rebuilt torque converter pressure checked good. It leaked again on reinstallation. Third time, I found the converter stator bushing had moved forward about half an inch and bottomed out on the pump seal, apparently from the torque converter binding on the bushing as I tightened up the four nuts. That blocked the return cavity drain for the bushing lube circuit. Fourth time it went in I had no leaks, but the transmission was starting in second sometimes and had some weird shifting behavior. The initial complaint was a delay and then a big jump when selecting Drive; it still did that, even with the full rebuild. I pulled out all the stops for the last time it came out. Although I installed a Sonnax sure cure kit, I was unable to install the two oversized valves, since I did not have and wasn't interested in investing in the hundreds of dollars in tooling. The pressure regulator valve was scuffed and a new standard size valve did not help at all. I decided to buy a Sonnax stock level rebuilt valve body from RA online, since all of my clutches, bands, servos and accumulators air checked good with a test plate. After the valve body and final reinstallation in the truck, the truck drove and shifted great, every shift! It cured the delay going in forward problem and the starting in second gear problem. Right now I have about 600 miles on the rebuild and have experienced zero issues.

There need to be more people like this in the world. Thank you Mr. Williams for your knowledge, as others have stated, this is amazing for those who want to learn. I have always feared working on these types of components. Everyone always talks about how futile it is to try to repair automatic transmissions. Of course I always believed that not to be true, that it was possible, given the right knowledge, and determination. I always wondered what black magic was going on in that bizarre aluminum housing, and alas, I have found Mr. Jimmy Williams, the Bob Ross of transmission repair. (insert heavenly chorus) you will go down in internet history for sharing your epic knowledge with the world kind sir!

James, this series of videos are the best I have ever seen on KZbin on any subject matter. An excellent presentation done with meticulous care. I wish all KZbinrs would follow your example. I have a 2000 P71 Crown Vic with this transmission that is working ok (155,000 miles) except it has the annoying shudder under light acceleration. According to another video I have seen, that problem can be fixed with a few new components in the valve body.

@WorldRenownedCFE 🎤 I didn't get a kit exactly. I bought most of the bits individually from eBay and Amazon. The parts list is in the comments of the video posted at kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWXCXmOZjbqEqqM. The Transmission Bench folks have a kit. transmissionbench.com/700R4parts.html

This Kit from Sonnax has been replaced with a different Part# and now referred to as Zip Kit. The Sure Cure kit is different from this one now and requires other tooling to bore the valvebody. Current Part# for this kit used in the video is AODE-4R75E-ZIP

Thank You James most of the other guys go too fast, I end up watching your video instead, I believe this might end up as my new retirement plan to rebuild the 4R75 type tranny's, I am just finishing mine tomorrow, I sure hope it works setting the input shaft was not covered in this Video but Sonnax helped my out with that problem.

Amazing video series, best I've ever seen. I could not have done it without Transmission Bench videos. All I will say is that in lesson four I wanted to shoot those teflon and steel seals on the stator support when trying to size them and stop getting failed air leaks (was leaking horribly no matter what I tried from out the stat support rings reverse and forward). Eventually with enough lube and resizing and compressing the teflons and steels it stopped the crossleak down to marginal amount. I am forever in your debt for making this amazing video series! Great job!
@normanhardin44133 жыл бұрын
I was going to have this done by others, but after watching this I think I can work it through. I'll buy a decent used tranny first and have it ready to swap (don't want to risk down time if odd parts are needed to be replaced). Thank you sir, it was a great set of real-time videos that added the truth of the build that allows others to have the confidence.

6 years later and this video is still bearing fruit. I just repaired my stepson's F150 saving him at least $1800.00. One mistake at 44:32, there are 25 8-mm bolts not 27. An absolute stellar video and if you can't rebuild a 4R70W using this resource you haven't read enough Henry Ford quotes. No excuses.

I never adjusted the SERVO PISTON. thank you so much for your help
