They say that Baptisia are difficult to transplant. Did yours survive? I'm planting in Zone 5, Chicago. I'd like to make a hedge.

Hi Bebe, thank you for the questions. The answer is yes, it made it through the transplant and the winter. Which I was doubly concerned about because I transplanted it so late. But it is doing well. I will be doing a quick video the next day or two and will give a view of it. But yes they have a deep tap root and therefore do not like to be moved. However, as I say quite often plants are pretty resilient in my opinion and all they need is a little love. Let me recommend using biotone starter fertilizer in the hole if you decide to tackle this project. Good luck and happy planting. Let me know how it goes.

I’m curious for an update. I have 3 I need to move! 😮I hear they have deep tap roots. Mine have only been in the ground for one season.

Hi Virginia, actually I have a video being edited as we speak showing or answering this. But yes they do have deep tap roots and do not like to be moved, but as I say a lot of, plants are pretty resilient in my experience. Yes, the one I transplanted is coming up this spring as I show in the video about to come out. If you transplant yours I would recommend making sure to mix in some bio tone starter fertilizer. Good luck and happy gardening. Thanks for the question. Have a great day.

Good question. I honestly don't know yet because I haven't checked it. Here in Northeast Ohio the weather has been typical squirrely self. This week might be the start of a spring but so far we will have a 70 degree day followed by a week of freezing weather. Some days not even getting out of the 20's. So things that try to show their heads get zapped. Plus it was a very wet winter. So we will see, I will let you know about the transplant to the baptisia. Thanks for asking and have a great week.

@@yazmin444 were you waiting on me to respond to transplant yours? I’m sorry I didn’t respond sooner. It has been my experience that plants are pretty resilient. They have to be here in NE Ohio.

Has it recovered since you moved it?

A lot of leafs died and it looked rough, well actually still kind of rough but there is still green and in fact I think there is some new growth. Next spring will really be the test because we can have some pretty bad winters weather wise here in north east Ohio. Thank you for asking and I will try to remember to show it in my next video. Have a great day.

Thanks! I went ahead and moved mine today, in central Nj. Hoping all of the recent rain and cooler temps will help. Fingers crossed.
