Hello Tony, I am going to use split pipes with all my Giant veg next time, hopefully it will make it easier less root disturbance, did my Giant Carrots this way and it works surprisingly well. Trying a Giant heavy Red ,but I am a long way behind. Thankyou for sharing this. 🌱Happy Gardening my friend, Terry.

Split pipes are good for root veg like carrot parsnip and celery to start with but cabbage would out grow it very quickly mate

Yes the weather didnt help at time of planting I can tell ya

Tony is absolutely right about Brassicas not like being rocked, If you have brussel sprouts and they are loose in the ground they will hardly form any sprouts up the stem.Some growers have blamed the variety for poor yield when in fact its because they are loose. Being loose also stunts the growth in Cauliflower,Brocoli as well. So keep ground around base firm and check after strong winds etc

Yeah you can apply to much pressure with these guys for sure

I like the idea of the cling film wrap...ideal also for protecting sweetcorn and young bean plants 😀👍. A nice soil mixture with plenty of Nitrogen. Good Luck......keep us posted. Any shows in particular you looking to enter........or you just want to beat Dave Thomas 😀😀😀👍

Dave Thomas is the king of cabbage matey. But something to aim for. Im not sure im going to any shows this year due to going away near Malvern autumn show im not sure I will have the time or inclination tbh. It will all depend on how things look closer to the time.

Good luck with this monster Tony.... Some dirty old man told me to throw Fish heads into the hole before you plant them on, but I don't know if this is a good or a bad idea mate... I recon you would need to put some fairly substantial caging around it if you did the fish heads on our site to keep the bloody cats away!!! Good video as ever mate... Look out for tonight's EP on the Little farm as I have a new toy... Cheers Pal. ;-)

Top Notch Video, That first one with the big root system will be a monster! When its harvest time I will bring a JCB to lift it haha Have you ever seen them Russian Giant Cabbages? I am not sure if some of them are photo shopped though. I have some Medwyns Giant seeds that I got for Christmas but I was told to wait until November to sow them, Its like waiting decades haha They are supposed to get to 124lbs I doubt I will achieve that though. lol
@simplifygardening6 жыл бұрын
Yeah sow them in November and keep them ticking over until spring and get them out. These will do ok but should have been out long ago

I tried growing a giant cabbage years ago when I first got my plot. unfortunately it was a pure failure. I found out the hard way about how much club root was in the soil and how hungry the local pigeons were. lol..............brian
@simplifygardening6 жыл бұрын
well there are other ways but get the lime in the soil and be golden. covers help with pigeons
