In trams vs buses you forgot that (a) trams can take more people (especially relatively early in the game - around 1910-1920 bus will be able to take what, 8 people? while tram will take 20) and (b) traffic doesn't go fast in cities anyway. So you will need less trams than buses to satisfy intracity passenger demand.
@jampetable3 жыл бұрын
You would think that older vehicles become more unreliable and lose performance (top speed, acceleration) as they get older which would be a bigger incentive to replace vehicles or increase maintenance than emissions only. Strange that the game doesn't simulate that. Maybe in Transport Fever 3 :)

While you were explaining the emissions issue, I started thinking about something. The way you have been managing cities so far is to supply them with goods, wait until they grow, then setting up public transport once they're established and growing. It's working well, obviously, but I would like to suggest a slightly different approach as an experiment. Find a small city that you haven't yet begun to supply. Initiate a public transport system first, making sure to maximize coverage of not only the center of the city, but future city expansion. If it means building roads beyond the current city limits, that means better future coverage as it grows. This way, you can design the streets your public transport will use with minimal impact on the city structure, but also guarantee you can have the most efficient route laid out. Wide streets, bus lanes (or trams if you wish) and as the city expands, all you would have to do is make sure the stops cover all 3 types of city sector. This would also allow you to make efficient routes for the supply of goods as well as city to city transport when it becomes viable. Since the three city sectors rarely overlap, judging the expansion of those areas would be easy enough to be able to plan transport expansions without interfering with residential areas. I believe that having an established inner-city passenger route early on would make a large positive impact upon expansion once your supply of goods is in place. It just seemed logical to me to support the early growth of a city as much as possible and make it easier to further that growth later on. Let the city build around your plans instead of the opposite. Edited for silly mistakes. Removal, not added. Hopefully.
@TheRockofEasyCo3 жыл бұрын
I've noticed in the route manager, that you can see the "rate". That should tell you much you're moving per cycle. I look at it to make sure a town's demand is being meant and not exceeded by too much. It's especially helpful after doing a big upgrade like you're about to do with the MAN trucks and eventually the Semi trucks. At least in theory.
@Viper6077062 жыл бұрын
A bit late but... 14 Passengers on a bus vs 23 on the tram, tram has less Emissions, meaning less emissions per passenger transported. Speed also doesn't really matter that much inside a city given that the city speed limits are lower anyway. so I'd say trams are indeed the better option for intracity transport, Intercity however buses rule supreme til you get to trains.

I think the Loughton/Mablethorpe connection should've been "underslung, like you suggested at 21:18, so the tracks wouldn't pass right by the cities, wouldn't hamper city growth & would require less tunnelling.

Emissions in this game are so weird. I get that trams have noise polution, but even that is smaller then buses, not to mention they're electric not Diesel powered. Also, as the vehicle condition degrades it should increase emissions and running costs, not to mention increase times, since they run poorly and start to break up. I think they should consider some of the Cities: Skylines for noise and air polution, but with a fleet management mechanic, with all the wearing down and such. This would make for such a robust and interesting gaming experience, at least for a harder dificulty.

I believe you can "train" your cities Mr. Squirrel, just delete the odd bits of residential in the industrial/commercial areas and vice versa, soon grows back and the AI seems to get the idea then. Good series and very enjoyable and informative analysis.

Swapping buses with trams, would improve emission, because trams take more people and therefor you don't need as many trams as you need buses.

Would be lovely, if they brought back the breakdowns because of poor maintenance/replacements, like in transport tycoon. (tycoon, wasnt it?) Great episodes, nice explanations... keep up the good work! Btw, does a depot inside the city maybe have a bigger catchment than the truckstops? If you build the road under or over the trainlines, cities will expand beyond your trainborders.

ok so u say the small amount of lesser emission of trams aint worth that much... But i think they are still superior to current mc benz. less emmision, more passenger, there dont need to be taht many on the street, decreasing traffic and they dont cost much more than bus. In addition u can ignore the 10 km/h diffrence, considering they cant get up to 70 in a city anyway. Also, this might be because im located in berlin, trams are just way better than busses :P. In the end u do u, just wanted to mention it
@boris41842 жыл бұрын
I really think they need to change the way vehicle condition works. Having breakdowns for poorly maintained equipment should be a thing to force the use of maintenance, and to consider replacing vehicles regularly as in real life. Vehicle condition could also influence the chance that someone wants to use that service, especially for public transport vehicles. I wouldn't want to get in a 50 yr old bus covered in dirt.
