Transport Fever 2: The Metropolitan Railway from Aylesbury to Quainton Road in 1900

A recreation in 1:1 scale, based on the Ordnance Survey Revisions of 1898, of a time when a London based commuter railway extended is operations 50 miles into the heart of rural Buckinghamshire. We begin our journey on a Metropolitan Railway passenger train from London going north toward the terminus at Verney Junction.

That was a pleasure! I lived in Quainton between 1963 and 73. May I offer a couple of observations? I think it’s the Vale of Aylesbury (as opposed to Buckingham) and I never heard locals pronounce the middle ‘es’ in Waddesdon. From Quainton Road station to the village is nearer a mile but is at least reasonably flat. I’ve walked and cycled it many times. Back then there was still through traffic on the line, mainly coal and a few passenger services further into the Midlands and I can recall the wired quiet when it all stopped. The remaining rump of HS2 will pass just south of the station thus terminating any ideas for a partial re-I statement of the Brill tramway, a line friends and I thoroughly explored back around 1967. I look forward to your presentation of it.

Very interesting. At West Harrow to the church is St Peter's, the video says St Andrew's.
