9:35 why doesn't the sucrose just directly diffuse from high conc in leaf tissue to low conc in companion cells? What's the point of having to use hydrogen and co-transport to bring it into the companion cells?

because sucrose is a large molecule and it's not polar.

Lol i think it's so they build up outside the companion cell and then make a concentration gradient so sucrose can bing to the hydrogen ions and can move back into the companion cell
