beside the experience and your skill you also have invested in the right equipment to expedite the task at hand.I have done that work back in 70,s and 80,s without much equipment, so im impressed at every one of your job/video. That work is the hardest work in a truck shop in my opinion. Keep up the good work.

Awesome vids, you take the time to explain what you are doing, very easy tutorial. having the right tools for the job is essential, coupled with your experience you make the job look easy. I do like the pre-plan of events with each job, makes sense. I like wrenching on my vehicles, but some times taking my trucks into a certified mechanic is a better choice. Be safe and thanks again for your videos. Flo

The right tools and accessories make jobs easier. I have to do these without the service pit. It’s doable but more difficult. Here in the rust belt even a simple job gets more difficult

Leaf springs are still common. Xtra lease and Amazon mainly use leaf springs.

I am a road service and I used to change a lot of springs before air bags took over. I built a saddle out of 3/4 plate that perfectly fit under the rounded center equalizer hanger, put a 20 ton jack and able to raise very quick. I have a pair and can raise both sides. Works great for equalizers too. I got a Astro "Big Nasty" air hammer, wished I had it I years past to push the two bolt equalizer bolts out, though not sure if it has to omph. They could be a real bitch to remove. I would bet that big air hammer you have would make quick work out of equalizer bolts.

Love the channel. Great content and sincerely appreciate watching someone work who knows their craft and puts their experience to work every day. Legitimate question: Why do you put anti-seize on u-bolt threads when its unlikely those nuts will ever come off again? In almost every one of your videos I have watched, you torch off old u-bolts and in a summer 2022 video short you explained why you should replace u-bolts during any repair. Your work process is chock full of efficiencies. Not clear why you still put time and $$$ into anti-seize on nuts you or any other person will ever touch again.
@simcoespring
@simcoespring Жыл бұрын
I dont think I have ever put anti-seize on ubolts. Ot changes the torque specs and can cause the ubolts to overstretch. I like to use a light oil finish, gear oil or wd40. However some customers cant afford new ubolts so we end up re-using some...but it is rare. I refuse to reuse them is they are on a semi truck. It is complicated.
@joeb6864
@joeb6864 Жыл бұрын
@@simcoespring Actually , my mistake. You put anti-seize on restrictor bolt at about 4:20. Somehow I conflated that with the u-bolts. All makes sense now. Thanks for the reply.

Don’t know if you’ll see this or not but I gotta broken spring on my grain trailer and watching this video helped a lot. I still have yet to get the parts to do it but I have 2 questions. 1. Do you recommend replacing the springs in pairs? 2. Where are you jacking the trailer up at to take the weight off?
@simcoespring
@simcoespring 2 жыл бұрын
because this trailer was quite old, we did replace them in pairs. Leaf springs will sag over time, so anything older than 10-15 years we'll try to replace them in pairs (if the customer is ok with it.) We always jack up on the frame. We will try everything in our power to jack up on the frame rails. It is the most stable and usually if structurally sound, shouldn't bend, twist or move. Plus your jacks should be on falt concrete if able. sometimes we spend like 10-20 minutes just planning out where the safest place to jack up on a vehicle. Some take 10 seconds to plan where to jack up on depending on how large and easy to frame it to access.

Neither. We order these springs in as we need them. I don't stock any of the old trailer leaf springs because everything is now air ride and these are going the way of the dinosaur.
