Great video. You are so polite. 😂😂 even a humble American will get road rage here. We bought a baobao ( Tuk tuk ). A little short for me but I manage. We keep talking about a car but we both hate driving. We’d only use it to go to Davao every other month. We are in the providence as well in southern Mindanao.

I do get frustrated driving sometimes when drivers go wrong way, don't look cut me off, etc. I try to remember it's not my country and just take deep breaths lol. We are the visitors...but I do wish I could teach the whole country a more efficient/safe way hahahahaha

Great topic, but you missed an obvious choice. The tuktuk! I am 6’5”, and I tried a scooter and definitely wanted a little more protection between me and the Almighty. There is no way I could sit in any truck, van or car and drive well, so the next alternative was a trike. Even though I still cannot drive it, my fiancée and sister agreed to be my on call drivers. Went to the Bajaj dealer (which is by far the best make, IMO) and bought the special edition which was shipped in from Cebu. As part of the deal, they agreed to provide one on one driving lessons for each of them, and they modified the tailgate so it lays flat like a pickup. Definitely has more protection, and can purchase drop curtains for the rain. Best of all, I think it cost me around $3,200 usd. Hands down the best option for safety and budget. Always enjoy your videos!

Thanks for sharing...sorry I forgot Bajaj...they are cute too lol. My only concern is the doors and open areas but you are right with the vinyl roll downs...works well in the heavy rains? I know another channel I used to watch in Naga that had a nice Ford pickup but preferred his Bajaj...easier to drive and park around town. Thanks again for getting information out there.

I’m thinking of buying a new Toyota truck when I move there to retire in a few months. One vlogger was say his new Toyota truck cast $12 grand US so I was going to buy a car but I’ve been to the Philippines twice and drive to the province the truck or SUV sits up higher than the car and so that’s my reason.
@Americaninthephilippines
@Americaninthephilippines 12 күн бұрын
I'm jealous lol...Toyota truck is my dream vehicle here but I couldn't afford it...yet lol. Yes you are correct...heavy rains flood some roads and the trucks with higher ground clearance do best. Also Toyota is VERY popular here so parts availability is better than most others. And dealerships/service centers are spread throughout. The one I would like someday is the Hilux G 4x2....1,466,000 pesos or 25,275 dollars at today's 58 to 1 exchange. Don't really need 4x4 unless you live on dirt road going up mountain and so many accessories here...lifts, wheels, lights, you name it. Good choice lol

That bike has a 689cm displacement. They also have a larger sport bike but over 20,000 dollars. Most of the manufactures offer sport bikes in many sizes and prices here. Hope I answered your question

The way I purchased my 400 sqm property in Mindanao was a 0% loan from the US. I got one of those balance transfer offers where the credit card would mail you checks. I wrote a check to myself for $8,000 and deposited it to my checking account in the US. I took a photo of it using the banking app. Within a couple days, I had the money. Then I transferred all of the money into GCash in chunks and that's how we paid for the land. I had 1 year at 0% to pay it off in full without being charged any interest. I just finished paying that loan off a few weeks ago. I would never want to finance anything in the Philippines. I don't how those people sleep at night charging 30% interest to poor people. That's so horrible. Thank God I have resources from the US to get funding options. If it wasn't for that, we would be so screwed.
@Americaninthephilippines

I will say getting a bank to finance a car is a major headache in the Philippines…..I wanted to use my cash for our house build but it was taking so long to get a rate that I just ended up paying cash for the car….I am lucky to have saved to do this prior to my retirement. Even with a six figure income they were going back and forth for over 6 weeks….. I see now what banking in the PI will be like.
